HPV Vaccine Won't Turn Girls Into Sluts, After All!

Good news for rational people everywhere—those HPV vaccines that some conservative prudes were convinced were going to turn girls into skanks do nothing of the sort, after all! So go out and get your kids—girls and boys—the shots.

A new study from the American Journal of Preventative Medicine found that girls who were given the vaccine, which can help prevent oral and cervical cancers, were more likely to always use condoms than girls who didn't. That's a bitter pill to swallow for Michele Bachmann,who claimed the HPV vaccine not only made girls sluts, it also made them retards.

While it's positive news overall, we can't help but agree with Dr. Jen Gunter, who wrote on her blog: "To insinuate that a woman of any age would make riskier sexual choices based on being vaccinated against the HPV is insulting at best, but in my mind really borders on misogyny. Women of all ages are smarter than that and it’s really sad that we need a study to prove it."

I used a condom with the guy that gave me HPV. I got it anyway. Spent the summer recovering from a hysterectomy and then going through chemo and radiation because that HPV morphed into aggressive cervical cancer.

That's why.

Because HPV can infect areas that aren't covered by a condom, like the inner thighs. Condoms don't fully protect against HPV.

Further, since there's no test for HPV (test only reveals an active infection), there's no way to ever know if someone's free of the virus; even long-term monogamous couples would need to use condoms forever, and they'd still be at risk since condoms can't fully protect against HPV.

Penile, cervical, oropharyngeal, and anal cancers are horrible, can cause infertility or be completely deadly, and now, they are largely preventable. Why chance it?
