Cab Jumps Curb In Murray Hill, Sending Man Through Glass Window

A day after four people were injured when a cab jumped the curb in Midtown, another hack hopped the curb in Murray Hill this morning, hitting a man and woman and sending the man through a glass door of a nail salon. Around 9:47 a.m., "The taxi came up on the sidewalk and crushed the window," the owner of Hair and Spa Party told the Post. "It was kind of like a movie. He [the victim] was half in and half out." According to DNAinfo, four people in total were injured, and three were taken to Bellevue Hospital, two of them with serious injuries.

The NYPD confirmed with us that no summonses had been issued in the case, but that the investigation was still ongoing. The driver of the cab was one of the injured who was transported to Bellevue, along with one of the pedestrians. Both are currently in stable condition. The passenger of the cab, along with another pedestrian, refused medical attention at the scene.

    fucks sake!
enough with the running over people already!

  • cetriche

OK, no summons, but yet if I hop my bike on the sidewalk in order to avoid getting squashed by a sanitation truck, guess who has to go to court???

  • whitecastlerock

The driver was probably speeding or cutting someone off while babbling away on his bluetooth. If he was parked at an expired meter he would have been given a ticket within 3 seconds. Traffic enforcement agents are like cockroaches in this area. Run someone over, injure others, no summons, nada, zip. Move along people.

  • Cab and livery drivers are awful and show no regard for traffic laws, when is the NYPD going to do anything about it?

  • virgilstarkwell

i don't know what city you're living in but i see cabs getting pulled over and ticketed for violations every single day. just yesterday, i saw a bunch get ticketed for 'blocking the box' near the holland tunnel and i damn near started applauding.

sorry if i'm letting facts get in the way of your anti-nypd rant though...

  • Blocking the box is not a safety issue as much as it is a traffic and gridlock issue.  There are way too many issues with how cabs and livery drivers are unsafe and out of control.  I'm not ranting against the NYPD as much as saying that someone in charge needs to make traffic enforcement more of a priority.  I live in Brooklyn and see car service drivers do some of the most absurd things every single day and I never see them get pulled over.

and here in Harlem the Livery jockeys making illegal uturns in the middle of the intersections...  What's up with that ???????????????????????????????????????

  • Yup they do it everywhere.  No respect for the traffic laws whether it is ignorance or blatant disregard.

  • Gwinny

Everyone makes illegal u-turns... all over town. I see a bunch every single time I bike-commute to work.

  • virgilstarkwell

the blocking the box thing was an example - and one that's near and dear to my heart as i find it maddeningly selfish. but, to your point, i regularly see examples of enforcement being a priority. frankly, there's too much $ in it for it not to be one.

  • There is much more money to be made

    Damn bike lanes.

And Bloomberg wants 20,000 more cabs roaming city streets? Pedestrians, run for your lives!

  • luke_1

Yeah screw the subway let's all ride in cabs. Bloomberg is like Robert Moses reincarnated except he is still stuck in Moses' time.
