Last Night's Action: The Worst Sunday Of Football in New York History.

It's hard to say which New York football team performed worse on Sunday. Both teams were facing big games in their hunt for the playoffs and both teams absolutely stunk.

The Giants came out flat, clearly looking ahead to their game with the Jets. Despite intercepting Washington on two of their first-three drives, the Giants couldn't score a point. Hakeem Nicks dropped a clear touchdown and New York fell behind 17-0 before converting a field goal with time running out in the first half.

New York opened the second half with the ball, but Eli Manning was picked off on the second play of the half. It was one of three turnovers by Manning who easily had his worst game of the season. Washington opened its lead up to 23-3 and the Giants failed to get any points on two trips into the red zone. They finally scored a touchdown with 33 seconds left in the game to make the final 23-10. Amazingly, they still control their destiny. If they can beat the Jets and Dallas in their final two games, they will win the NFC East. However, they will be eliminated if they lose to the Jets and Dallas wins next week.

Not content to let the Giants hog the spotlight of ineptitude, the Jets came out and got destroyed by Philadelphia. The Eagles returned a fumble by Santonio Holmes on the Jets first offensive possession and didn't look back. They led 28-0 midway through the second quarter. Santonio Holmes caught a touchdown from Mark Sanchez to cut the lead to 28-9, but for some reason felt the need to celebrate and cost the Jets 15 yards. New York cut the lead to 28-13 at the half, but Philadelphia pulled away in the second half with LeSean McCoy rushing for two of his three touchdowns and the Eagles rolling to a 45-19 win.

On the plus side, the Jets-Giants clash next weekend just became even bigger. The loser is most likely home for the playoffs. The winner gets to pretend to be a good football team for another week.

Yesterday was an awesome day in the NFL!  Hell, it was an awesome weekend.

This weekend's local games were horrendous for Jets and Giants fans, but on the positive side Saturday's looming Jets vs Giants game is huge, and is just an added bonus to the Christmas festivities.

You figure by this point in their careers, the pro football players on the Jets and Giants might know how to play football.

Horrendous execution of an anemic game plan by both teams...

Not that they did any better, but the only NY team that actually plays in NY also lost. That'd be the Bills.

  • Enough this tired line of the only football team that plays in New York garbage, it is so played out.  They don't even play in Buffalo.  The Giants and Jets represent New York City.  They play only a few miles away from Manhattan.  Enough with that line it is so overdone.  That and the Bills are awful and have been for a very long time.

And incidentally, they were in 4 Super Bowls in a row in the 1990s. If you think that's a very long time, then you have some growing up to do. Get back to me when you've managed it.

You gotta win one for it to count.  But to meet halfway, we'll all agree to remember Scott Norwood.

haha, that was so lame.  and I agree with AA Brooklyn-- they represent New York, who cares if they play a couple miles outside of the city. tired bs

Or give money to NJ that should come to NY.  Yeah, who cares?

  • aspiringrapper

    Bitter much?

Yeah, they play a 5 minute drive from the city of Buffalo. But unlike either the Jets or Giants, they still play in NY state. There is a whole world outside of your precious 5 boroughs or whichever two or three of them you might count.

Neither the Jets or Giants are setting the sports world on fire either you city centric dick.

the game where the ny teams play each other will suck

    The 2011 Toilet Bowl

  • The caption on that picture should be "Oh shit, what's the penalty if we killed him?"

  • diablofreak
