Cyclist Stabs Cyclist!

Cyclists are used to dealing with hostility from sociopath drivers, but last night a biker turned on one of his own. The FDNY and the NYPD tell us they have no information about the incident, but the NYPD tells NY1 that a cyclist in his 30s was stabbed in his chest and back. The stabbing happened around 7 p.m. on the corner of Ninth Avenue and 49th Street.

According to ABC 7, the two cyclists were deliverymen, and there is surveillance footage of the incident. Witnesses say "the two men started fighting and then one stabbed the other before riding away on his bike." The victim was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive, while his assailant is reportedly still at large. Meanwhile, we hear that Andrea Peyser at the Post is busy dashing off a column titled Scary Stabby Cyclists Spoiling City's Serenity!

Seriously, when did Gothamist turn into the Transportation Alternatives/Times Up newsletter? The fact that these two were delivery guys is by the by, but you've ended up MAKING it about cyclists in general, when that is certainly not the case. Rampant bias devalues your reporting and lessens its ability to mobilize public opinion, and in this case has harmed your own cause. If you want to advocate for cyclists then please report fairly and accurately, and don't editorialize and especially don't propagandize. The facts will speak for themselves if you let them.

Your BEYOND blind pro-biker stance is really getting ridiculous & annoying at this point. How about you just shut down gothamist & start a website that deals SOLELY with cyclists and all the heartache and adversity they have to deal with in their everyday lives, since apparently they're the most oppressed group on the face of the planet. You've actually driven me.....sorry, cycled me, to the point where I'd rather read Andrea Peyser's non-existent autobiography than another fuckin' cyclist article. NOBODY CARES.

Smart response. In the past this site was great and didn't get a huge, throbbing hard-on for every single story across the globe that involved a bicycle, and now that's the case AND the bicyclists are NEVER in the wrong. At the very least gothamist could try being unbiased with their reporting, but clearly that's too much to ask for.

Just so you know, drivers also experience plenty of hostility from sociopathic cyclists. It's not a one-way street. But if it were, there'd be a cyclist riding the wrong way down it.
