Brooklyn 6-Month-Old Found Dead With Bruises, Scratches On Body

A 6-month-old boy was found dead in his crib by his mother early this morning, and police have yet to determine a cause of death. An EMS worker alerted police that baby Stephon Jenkins had bruises and scratches on his body. Mother Tina Brice, 20, says she went to check on him around 5:40 p.m. inside their first-floor Fulton St. apartment in Brownsville: “I put him to sleep, I checked on him two to three times,” the single mom told the Daily News. “When I checked again there was white and brown stuff in his mouth.”

The baby’s uncle, Edward Moseley, 31, said they immediately called for an ambulance, but the baby was already “blue and cold.” Stephon and his twin brother, Jashaun, were born prematurely at seven months, but Moseley described Stephon as “healthy.” A neighbor heard a commotion soon after they found Stephon: “I didn’t hear any screaming until they found out the baby was dead,” said 15-year-old Thomas Harris.

It's the brown and white 'stuff' in the mouth makes me think he vomited in his sleep and started choking.  Wouldn't have been able to breathe or scream.  If he started flailing around, grabbing at his neck and chest that could account for bruising and scratching...

But if some adult is to blame for this, I'd wish more than the law allows for punishment.

White and brown "stuff" would also indicate that it might have been solid food, which a 6 month old should not have been eating.

  • Per the American Academy of Pediatrics, most babies are ready to eat solid foods at 4 to 6 months of age.

I doubt this had anything to do with what the child was eating. Sounds like he was beaten.

Do they recommend Oreo's, cause it sounds like that's what it might have been.

  • I can't decide if you're trying to be funny about a child's death, you're racist, or you're just a huge idiot. Could be some combination of the three...

Nothing funny in a child's death...or parental neglect for that matter. The Oreo reference was in regards to the color of the "stuff" coming out of the child's mouth, so step off the race baiting train. I may be an idiot for suggesting that someone fed a 6 month old child a cookie, but if I'm right, than who's the bigger idiot?

Without reading the article I'm gonna make a wild guess this happened in the f'n ghetto.

    Sounds like Foul play.

R.I.P little guy. And Mom, if you had anything to do with this, I hope you rest in pieces.
