Serial Rapist Sentenced To 428 Years In Prison

Convicted rapist Vincent Heyward received a sentence of 428 years in prison yesterday after being found guilty of dozens of felony charges for sexually assaulting five women in Hamilton Heights and Chinatown. Prosecutors told NY1 that Heyward's victims gave statements before the sentencing, and that Heyward received one sentence of 200 years to life, along with a consecutive sentence of 228 years.

After a series of women were attacked in August and September of 2009, police released a sketch of the suspect, and asked Heyward to submit a swab of DNA based on his resemblance. "Yeah, that does look like me," he reportedly said at the time, and willingly gave police the sample. It matched DNA evidence in four attacks, which led to his arrest.

Before the judge handed down the sentence, the Daily News reports that one victim, a 59-year-old performing artist who was raped and sodomized in a Hamilton Heights alley, said she was ashamed that she "started to look at black men differently... That's not fair. They are not responsible for what happened to me. Racism disgusts me and that's not who I am." Then she looked at Heyward and said, "Not all black men are you. No other black men are you!"

According to the news, that the statement "provoked the shackled, Heyward, 23, to explode out of his seat at the defense table. As four court officers subdued him, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Ronald Zweibel sternly demanded: 'Take a seat, Mr. Heyward!'"

I'm glad to see the follow-up on this story. I live in Hamilton Heights and remember when police were standing on corners handing out warning flyers to women as they passed. This was right after my youngest sister moved in with me to attend college, and I was really worried about her.

I do not get these long sentences. What is the point, unless he is castrated
prior to the start of the first sentence? Just freaking kill him and feed the
bod to pigs. Make all his blood relatives get a license to procreate. Save everyone's money, and rid the world of a dangerous animal.

? from what I gathered from the reading She was NOT making it a race issue. she was merely EMOTIONAL and exclaiming out load how in fact, not all black men are him. Fair statement - Especially considering what she went through. As far as breaking down race, age, environmental cues, etc its best left for officials, scientists & Dr.s. What can regular folk do with those statistics? Just gift for Xmas some mace spray & self defense classes.
