NYU Doesn't Care That Chick-Fil-A Gives To Anti-Gay Groups

nov3011chickfila.jpg The city's one and only Chick-Fil-A, housed in a student cafeteria in an NYU dorm, isn't going anywhere, despite the chain's anti-gay and anti-artist sentiments. So...hooray for anyone craving a "soggy, stale, bland" sandwich with a side of conservative morality!

The NYU Student Senators Council took a vote and decided not to ban any non-university businesses affiliated with the school due to their political or social stances. They will ban businesses who violate labor or human rights, but apparently, giving huge amounts of cash to anti-gay groups aren't included in that umbrella.

Anyhow, the school won't comment on the issue, but its students sure will: "By not acting on this matter, we are essentially supporting heterosexism," student Whitney Coulson said. "We live in a predominately heterosexist society, and this attitude is used to justify the mistreatment, discrimination and harassment of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender, queer and questioning individuals." I'm seeing a lot of ignorant comments on here. We get past the black/white issues to get into gay/straight issues? Why can't people live and let live. The ones bashing Christian beliefs are no better than the one bashing homosexuality. You get what you give.

  • I don't see what the problem is here---unless one of those anti-gay groups is actually calling for the death of gays (as Target found out the hard way last year).

  • ChickfilA_what_a_dumb_name

There's only a problem with anti-gay groups if they call for the death of gay people? How enlightened of you.

  • ChickfilA_what_a_dumb_name

Anyone who thinks being gay is a lifestyle choice should eat at Chick-fil-A. That'a about the level of cuisine such a person would aspire to, as it goes nicely with their intellectual aspirations.

  • It's amazing how some folks seem to be ok with forcing their views, like homosexuality, on everyone else.  Yet when someone else or some other organization supports their beliefs, are they respected for their veiwpoint?  No!  They are bashed and ridiculed because they don't fall in line with the minority.  Homosexuality is a lifestyle choice not a right.  Do what you want but don't think everyone else has to agree and consent that it's ok.  I think I might eat at Chick-fil-a today just to support them.

  • "Homosexuality is a lifestyle choice not a right." ???? Seriously?

You are retarded. With that logic, heterosexuality is a lifestyle choice, too, and married couples have no right to be together, so the state can legally force them to separate for no reason whatsoever.

You don't have to think it is okay, but you also aren't allowed to actively seek their destruction, discrimination or second-class citizenship.

  • NO ONE IF FORCING ANYTHING ON YOU. You CHOSE to come here, read this artical, and comment. Obviously the views of homosexuals interest you enough to state your uneducated views.

  • ChickfilA_what_a_dumb_name

Anyone who thinks homosexuality is a lifestyle choice should eat at Chick-fil-A, because that person's taste in cuisine would accurately reflect his intellect.

  • Yes, you white christians are so oppressed. Poor you.

Who is "forcing" anything on you? You sound like one of those "war on christmas" nutcases who yell at my friends in retail for saying "happy holidays."

they've got a campus in abu dhabi, so it's hardly surprising that they're untroubled by this..

  • angry_pickle

Money trumps all.  I'm pretty sure they are hoping to enroll a potential sugar daddy in the middle east.

  • It's amazing that concerns about the, at least, oblique actions of the university become a clarion call without regard to any adduced facts as to why the company makes the charitable contributions listed. What about some concern by the student body about attending a school that has created a semiautonomous campus in a dictatorial kingdom that does not prohibit slavery by its neighbors visiting, but makes damn sure that none of its visitors have been to Israel or happen to be perceived as Jews. Good show.

  • so if you donate to the school you are supporting their agenda.  i would think.

Interesting how being pro "traditional" family means you are anti-gay?..So being pro gay must mean you are against the "traditional" family..correct?Lets start boycotting people and businesses that are pro-gay because they are against "traditional" families. Some people really need a hobby reminds me of the liberal jackasses that tried to organize a boycott of Whole Foods because they went against the Messiah Obamas healthcare plan. That boycott went nowhere, the same idiots were probably in charge of OWS protest, another failure. Also can somebody confirm that Chik-fil-a supports these groups as corporate policy or do people that work for Chik-fil-a(private citizens) support these groups?

  • If in being "pro traditional families" you are against gay families and gay marriage, then yes, you're being anti-gay.

  • RobertMosesSupposesErroneously

Pro-traditional family does not mean anti-gay!

Gays are 100% for traditional families. My parents are a traditional family. So are my grandparents. In fact, we love traditional families so much, we want to be included as well. Two people, in love, joined by marriage (thank you NY!), maybe raising a few kids - sounds pretty traditional to me!
