Last Night's Action: A Pair Of Wins

2008_12_rangerslogo.jpg Henrik Lundqvist will never be mistaken for Billy Smith. But, every goalie has their boiling point and Joe Vitale's antics in front of Lundqvist caused Henrik to reach his. Lundqvist took his stick and slashed at Vitale and also threw a punch. His efforts earned him a two-minute minor, one of eleven penalties called in the first period.

It was the second period where the Rangers went to work. Trailing 1-0 entering the frame, New York scored four-straight goals and ended up with a 4-3 win over Pittsburgh. Brad Richards led the Rangers with a goal and two assists while Ryan Callahan and Marian Gaborik each had a goal and an assist.

Al Montoya led the Islanders to a 2-1 victory over Buffalo with 30 saves. Matt Moulson and Brian Rolston scored for New York.

Great character win.  Sorry, rest of the league, but the Rangers are legit.  Three wins in a row against the elite of the league and SEVEN wins in a row at home for the first time since who even knows when...

It's November still. Let's see how "legit" they are in February...

They'll be even better in February, when Staal is back and Dubi finds his game. Come on, whitecastlerock, even you have to admit they look really good.

They are looking good, for now. it is a long season, but Callahan is a solid captain and hopefully they won't tank by March...

  • I'm such a cynical Rangers fan. I want to believe this is it, but look at the last couple of seasons when they came out of the gate HARD, only to lose steam at the end. I'm tired of getting my hopes up. But you are absolutely right, they do look really good, and I can't wait until Staal gets back.
