Videos: Muppets Take Saturday Night Live With Jason Segel

Last night was the Muppets' long-awaited return to sketch comedy—well, at least they got two sketches. They appeared on Saturday Night Live to give a hand to host Jason Segel, who is the human lead in the new, upcoming Muppets movie. Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Scooter, and Rowlf sang with Segel in the monologue and Kermit, a seasoned reporter, also showed up on Weekend Update to discuss how pizza is now a vegetable, suggesting maybe now the national anthem should be the Hot Pockets theme.

Segel's goofy demeanor served him well in many skits, and the Andre the Giant skit was particularly funny. Other highlights: Kelly Ripa auditioning replacements for Regis Philbin, a bed commercial and Jon Huntsman's appearance on Weekend Update The show is off next week but will return on December 3 with Steve Buscemi and the Black Keys.

  • The first hour of SNL is often really good.  Unfortunately the last 30 minutes is always there... just waiting to suck... just waiting to take all the life out of the viewer.

  • no one planning to point out that it's 'Segel'?

  • you're welcome, staff

Why don't we go with what a previous SNL scribe said about working with the Muppets - "I don't write for fucking felt".

It was nice to see The Land of Gorch get a cursory nod.The Jim Henson exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image damn near had everything but his check stubs on display but the Gorch gang were conspicuously absent.

I usually have a Grinch heart with SNL, but this one was particularly not as awful.  One of my organs grew three sizes that night (guess which one).

  • Florence was amazing!

  • Guest

She's talented, but why does she look 30 years older than she actually is?

Her previous appearance, when she sang "Dog days" was one of the most memorable ever on SNL; thanks to her talent, the song and that unique (to say the least) choreography.

  • her first song was crap and way off-key, is that what you mean by amazing?
