FINALLY: A Boozier Bud Light For Fat-Fearing Frat Bros

Oh yeah! (deklofenak / shutterstock).

The favorite brew of bros the world round is about to get boozier. This January Annheuser-Busch InBev will be dropping "Bud Light Platinum" into a store near you. The major difference between the new beer and one of the best-selling beers in the world? Alcohol. Platinum will have a 6 percent ABV and 137 calories (Bud Light, meanwhile, has a 4.2 percent ABV and 110 calories and regular Bud has a 5 percent ABV and 145 calories). After redesigning its cans, we can't imagine it will be hard for the company to persuade drinkers to pound back a few boozier beers.

As far as InBev is concerned, the "a trendy blue-bottle line extension appeals to a key group of beer drinkers and expands consumer occasions" to drink beer. As for what the beer will taste like, that is still somewhat of a mystery. But some industry-watchers reportedly expect it to be, flavor-wise, a continuation of the "craft" trend the company has recently been chasing with beers like Bud Light Golden Wheat.

The company announced the new, reportedly long-gestating, beer on an earnings call in which it acknowledged a dip in sales in the third quarter, though total revenues grew 3.6 percent [PDF]. Considering the timing of the beers launch, expect the next Super Bowl to be plastered in ads selling men on the idea of a beer that will get you drunk faster without too much damage to your waistline. Calling it now: there will be Clysedale diet jokes at the next Super Bowl

bud light is for people who don't like the taste of beer. just order a strawberry daiquiri like you really wanted, we'd respect you more.

    But all that extra sugar!

8 calories does not a light beer make. That's bordering on false advertising.

  • krinklecutfires

You what else is low calorie, has a high alcohol content, and actually tastes good?  Whiskey.
