Last Night's Action: Rangers Down Ducks With Shootout
After Ryan McDonagh squandered a golden opportunity in the final minute of overtime, the Rangers managed to down the Ducks, 2-1, following a shootout at the Garden. Marion Gaborik had the decisive goal and Henrik Lundqvist stopped Bobby Ryan to make things official. Jeff Woywitka had the lone regulation goal -- with an assist from Gaborik, who didn't make the most of his other opportunities. The Rangers have gained points in six of their last eight games and won two in a row at home. This win avenged a loss suffered during the season-opening weekend in Stockholm.
Some old hands (namely Patrik Elias and Zach Parise) scored in the Devils' 4-3 shootout win over the Flyers. Parise and Adam Henrique helped dig the Devils out of a 2-0 hole, and David Clarkson tied the score with 6:35 remaining in the game.
Things didn't go so well for the Islanders, who fell, 3-0 to the Jets at home. The Islanders had 34 shots but zero goals. They have lost six straight (including two shootout losses) and went 0-for-3 on the power play. They lost despite not giving the Jets a man advantage during the game.
