Video: Boeing 767 From Newark Crash Lands In Warsaw, No Injuries Reported

A Boeing 767 with 230 passengers on board made an emergency crash landing at a Warsaw airport around 2:40 p.m. local time (9:40 a.m. EST). The LOT Polish Airlines flight, which originated in Newark, was scheduled to land in Warsaw at 1:30 p.m. local time, but there were problems with the landing gear. The plane circled above the airport for an hour, dumping fuel before coming down in a dramatic belly landing. Here's video:

Reuters reports that Warsaw officials closed the airport to all other flights in preparation for the emergency landing. Nearby streets were also cleared, "and a landing strip was especially prepared at the airport for the crash landing." Local television reports no injuries, but we'll update if more information becomes available.

Wow. IF I ever am on a plane that has to make a wheels-up landing, may I get a pilot that's as good as this one - well-done!

and a landing strip was especially prepared... that's what she said.

  • why not land on grass next to the runway? less friction & sparks.

Great, this is exactly what I needed to see 3 hours before I get on a plane, thanks.

Remember planes don't crash often...they only crash once.

Shouldn't it have landed in the bed of a Nissan full-size pickup?

How the heck did it land in one piece? Unbelievable.
I say let's outsource piloting our planes to the Poles, just like we outsourced driving our cabs to Pakistanis.

Gears up landings aren't uncommon, if done right you're very likely to survive.

Also you need to learn what outsourcing means

  • colonelcasey

Most of the gear up incidents I've seen in the news, at least one landing gear deployed to soften the impact.  This is the first time I've seen a jumbo jet landing with 0 landing gear.
