MTA May Forego Stops On Some Bus Routes Due To "Halloween Vandals"

103011speed.jpg Two Bronx bus lines and a third in Brooklyn may be abridged tomorrow due to "Halloween vandals," which has to be code for "drunk teenagers." According to NY1, the MTA may skip parts of the Bx8 in Edgewater Park, the Bx24 in Country Club and Gerritsen Beach's B31, "depending on the behavior of those out celebrating the holiday." Terrible Elvira-esque costumes and 18-year-olds holding pillowcases going as "ghosts" are apparently still tolerated.

An MTA spokesman tells the outlet that they will work with the NYPD to determine which stops will be bypassed. The teenagers of Gerritsen Beach are rather notorious for their Halloween hi-jinx: last year they threw hammers and rocks at cars and buses, and some of the folks in the neighborhood don't appreciate the activities being documented. No word on whether the bus drivers will be expected to maintain a speed limit of 50 mph to avoid picking up people dressed up as Dennis Hopper.

Firefighters have saved my house 3 times over 45 years  , what's your point Fern ?

Is it just a general hatred toward cops and fire fighters ???

You sound like one of the OWS white middle class  anarchist frauds

    .
  • My point  -- and I can't believe how you twisted it around -- is that it's very sad that the teenagers who are now causing destruction with their bottle and rock throwing at innocent people -- are SOME of our firefighters and law enforcement officers of tomorrow.  I have tremendous respect for NYC's finest and bravest, and am horrified that their parents --  SOME of NYC's bravest and finest of today. are actually defending their kids who are committing the kinds of acts for which they are prosecuting kids of other parents, and which acts they should be condemning.  How you saw a connection to OWS is beyond me. And now if you still don't understand my point, then another NYC institution -- the school system -- failed you in teaching the fundamentals of reading comprehension.

at least they can be great cops then

Today's hopeless losers .....  Tomorrow's OWS hopeless potheads
  • I'm afraid it's a lot scarier than that.  This community traditionally follows their fathers and grandfathers into the NYPD and  NYFD, so unfortunately these are the firefighters and law enforcement officers of tomorrow, which is one of the reasons why they don't want their crimes exposed.  They don't want these kids to have records and then disqualify for their futures as NYC's Finest and Bravest.

Looks like garbage throwing garbage LOL.  And of course the cops didn't wanna do anything, because these are their own spoiled brats.

Of course if they were black....
  • Brought to you by the same bean counters that turn off subway service on the weekends... you know, the ones who don't have a life to speak of and don't remember what the city used to stand for.

It's called The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down.

Don't blame them for skipping Gerritsen Beach.
  • D
Oh, those oh so dangerous, cop & fireman ghettos of Gerritsen Beach, Country Club and Edgewater... *rolls eyes*
  • schmeep
You obviously didn't do your research.  They broke the windows of several buses last year in Gerristen, then the parents accused the person who exposed the kids on facebook of pedophilic leanings.  Since the cop families of Gerristen aren't going to prosecute their own kids, this is the best way to preserve MTA property.
  • What a sad comment on neighborhoods full of active and retired NYC's finest and bravest, and the children they raise.  One would expect these to be the safest neighborhoods, with kids kept in line and following the example of their dedicated, protective parents, but forgive me for being idealistic.  Very sad.

Actually Fern, the behavior of these children of the law, seem on point. These are your future rapists, ticket fixers, drug planters, and pepper-spray enthusiasts!  Forget Brownsville, aggressive behavior starts in these neighborhoods!! At least the bus on Mother Gaston will still run....

The sad thing is, is that you probably never even set foot in any of these neighborhoods! Edgewater Park and Country Club are 2 of the safest neighborhoods to be in! You NEVER hear of people being shot, stabbed, raped, etc. in these areas! You want to talk about aggressive...at least we don't throw our garbage all over the street and have bars on our windows!
  • FYI, as a youngster in Sheepshead Bay, my parents told me never to set foot in Gerritsen Beach because they were known for beating Jews to within an inch of our lives.  So, you're right that I never set foot there because I valued my safety.  If you were Catholic and white, it was safe.  If you were Jewish, or any person of color, not so much.
  • mibenich
I don't know anything about Gerritsen Beach, or Brooklyn for that matter. I do sympathize with anyone who is abused in any neighborhood, but in Edgewater Park in the Bronx, there are no beatings! We have people of all colors and nationalities here and, while not perfect, nobody's life is threatened. It also goes both way...I have been in neighborhoods where I was threatened for being white and I have had people let the door go and slam in my face by Jews who feel superior! Racism and prejudice is not just a white, Christian phenomenon!
  • Yea it's so safe the they had to stop bus service and take detours with the buses.  LOL.  Right sure.  Your garbage doesn't have to be thrown on the street.  The garbage is being raised indoors.
  • mibenich
Hey genius...apparently the news got it wrong again! The MTA didn't stop the buses from coming into Edgewater Park! It is funny how so many of you criticize this neighborhood, yet each Halloween there are bus loads of people from outside coming in to trick-or-treat! I wonder if that's because the people feel safe here and the residents treat them nicely and respectfully! Maybe you should know what you're talking about before you speak. Edgewater and Country Club have the lowest crime rates in the Bronx!
  • well said!! Still very sad........
  • D
    You obviously missed the sarcasm.
  • MEDICNYC
It was 50 mph and the bus never picked up Dennis Hopper.
  • Christopher_Robbins
Good eye on the speed of the bus! But c'mon...it's a (SPEED) joke.
