See Parker Posey, Campbell Scott Read Haruki Murakami Next Week

oct2711murakami.jpg In the event that you missed WORD's late-night Murakami read-a-thon on the release night of his new novel, IQ84, fret not! You have another opportunity to hear parts of Murakami's eagerly anticipated magnum opus read aloud, this time by some rather famous fans.

On November 2 at Symphony Space's Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, actors Jane Curtin, Aasif Mandvi (The Daily Show), Campbell Scott (Secret Lives of Dentists), Miriam Silverman (Septimus and Clarissa), Parker Posey and more will perform selections from the book, proof that sometimes, even famous people step out of the spotlight to devote themselves to trippy 1000-page epics.

Also on hand: Murakami "super-fan" Isaac Mizrahi (who knew?) and author John Wray, who recently interviewed Murakami for the Paris Review. (Interested readers may want to peruse this glowing New York Times Magazine cover story on the author as well.)

Tickets are $27 for non-members, $23 for members, and $15 for people 30 and under, and are available here.

  • I very much dislike anyone calling a work of literature the author's "magnum opus" unless the author him/herself has labeled it as such.  Murakami has written some very engaging pieces over the years, why does this one have to be his masterpiece?

    Because it's long.

and might actually have a concrete ending instead of just.....

  • Why not, you know, just read the book?
