Photos: This LEGO Manhattan Bridge Will Soon Be Riding The F Train

Remember when Brooklynite Jonathan Lopes built a miniature Brooklyn inside of his apartment? Well he's back, with a massive LEGO version of the Manhattan Bridge! This morning he told us it comes "complete with the south side walking path and the north side BIKE LANE! The sculpture is 12 feet long and there are approximately 21,000 LEGO pieces in it. It took about 35 hours to build (along with lots of time walking and also staring at the bridge!)." He's even got the archway in there, but sadly, we don't see Stabber Alley.

The piece is currently in the offices of his day job in Midtown (closed to the public, of course), but he tells us, "It will be brought back to my Brooklyn Studio early next week. F train riders: keep and eye out for a dashingly handsome rider next week, likely in the last car, with large pieces of a bridge in tow." But we're trying to convince him to ceremoniously walk it across the bridge itself...

he forgot all the construction that the bridge always has...

Lego should do a pro sponsorship for this guy. Seriously.

hell of a day job.  ifn you can spare 35 hours to building shit with legos

  • RobertMosesSupposesErroneously

You don't know how long it took him, though - could have spent just one hour a day on it and been done in just over a month. How many hours a day do you spend watching TV or trawling Gothamist articles looking for peoples' hobbies to criticize?

  • LtWorf

Can we replace our Manhattan Bridge with this one? It looks sturdier and better maintained.

  • RobertMosesSupposesErroneously

Awesome detail on the pylons! I love stuff like this.

There's not enough room on the F train to begin with, now we need a toy, on top of Whole Foods/Trader Joes/red Chinatown bags, to block seats?

  • randomtransplant

So you have a problem with shopping bags? Really? People should just not shop?

  • schmeep

Did I say I had a problem with bags per se?  If you indulged in a little inference (it's not hard), you might conjecture that I meant blocked seats (which I believe was stated).

Anyway, no one who has been in NYC more than a year can tell me they haven't encountered the inevitable Three Seats Taken by Red Bags and Old Chinese Woman(tm) experience.

  • randomtransplant

Why do you expect a seat when you get on the F train in the first place? Its funny that you imply you are some veteran straphanger, but your surprised when you don't get a seat. On the F. during grocery-shopping hours.

Some people do their shopping in another boro. Get over it. Respect your elders - with that attitude, you wont have anybody to cook FOR at her age.

  • coolnathan

why doesn't he put it on a train that actually goes over the manhattan bridge?

  • personagratin

Then he'd end up repairing the bridge for 18 years.
