Person Killed By Subway Train At 42nd St and 8th Ave, Delays On C And E Line

An unidentified person was killed by a subway train at 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue around 4:15 p.m. today, according to an FDNY spokesman. Details are still scant, but the MTA posted a service advisory at 4:48 p.m., notifying commuters that "uptown C trains are running express from the Canal Street Station to the 59th St-Columbus Circle Station. Uptown E trains are running express from the Canal Street Station to the 59th St-Columbus Circle Station. Please expect delays in service on the C and E trains at this time."

The MTA did not immediately respond to requests for comment, but we'll update as more information becomes available. On Twitter, there are informal reports that the victim is a woman, and that she fell under the C train, but that is obviously not confirmed.

It was an E train - the front left side of the train had a huge dent in it.

I hope the train operator is charged with a crime, and its not written off as "accidents happen" by the police.

  • How exactly is it the driver's fault? I'm sure these things wouldn't happen if people didn't either 1) want to jump in front of a train or 2) teeter on the edge of the platform and slip off.

Um, I think he was being sarcastic.

This is why I dont complain out loud about train service.
    RIP jumper.

was it a jumper? or was it an accident or some crazy dude pushing people off?
