LIke this, but not with cabs (Ide Type's flickr).

In August, rumors started swirling that a Formula One race could be coming the way of New York City (well, Weehawken and West New York) but we didn't put too much stock in it. We've been burned by F1 before. But lo! A source has confirmed to the AP that the race is coming to town in June 2013. A press conference is scheduled to announce the news in Weehawken tomorrow. Race fans, you can commence getting excited!

F1 has been wanting to get back into the States for awhile now (the last F1 in the states was in 2007 in Indianapolis) and already has an Austin, Texas, race scheduled for 2012, but having the "world's premier racing circuit" take place along the Hudson with the New York skyline as a backdrop is going to be big news. The actual race circuit is still under wraps, but here's one that F1Fanatic worked up based on provisional plans back in August:

Awesome, awesome, awesome. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to afford to go.

This is AWESOME!!! I really wanted to see a Manhattan F1, but I will take this!

Like soccer no one in USA likes formula 1 racing. We need a nascar race .Nascar would bring alot more money than a european event that is very boring race.

NASCAR is fucking retarded. Let's watch a bunch of cars go in a circle for a few hours! At least F1 is a little (LOT) more exciting!

theres been 16 F1 races this year. 1 driver won 10 of these races. theres no chance of a driver starting  last ever to win a F 1 race where its very hard to pass like in Nascar that has multiple lead changes throughout the race.

  • If you like Nascar, go see a Nascar event. This will be an historic event and it will bring FAR more money to the region than a Nascar race at the Meadowlands.

except that it will sell out and there will be 80k (fucking rich) tourists descending on hudson county and manhattan.

it will be a good time to be a gold digger.

As a race fan, I'll take it... But a NASCAR oval in the Meadowlands was deemed too large a risk? Ecclestone must have been willing to pay more...

  • Politburo

The risk with the NASCAR oval was financial, iirc, as it would only have been used a couple times a year.
