Meet Darrell Anderson, a Long Island man who probably isn't going to be nominated for any Father of the Year awards in 2011. Early Sunday morning, Mister Anderson was arrested after police say they clocked him driving 118 mph in a drag race with a drunken friend in Ronkokoma. The Post, which has dubbed him "doofus dad," reports that his 7-month-old daughter and 3-year-old son were found in the back seat of his 2001 Honda, and that the boy was not restrained. EXTREME PARENTING!

Anderson, 25, was allegedly "engaging in a speed contest" on the westbound LIE at 2 a.m. Sunday with Darryl Squires, 30, when they were pulled over by a deputy sheriff. Newsday reports that Anderson, who does not have a driver's license, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and engaging in an unlawful speed contest, along with multiple vehicle and traffic charges. His opponent, Squires, was charged with DWI, speeding, and engaging in an unlawful speed contest. At press time, it was unclear who actually won, though we're pretty sure it's not the children.

Yo, how do you know he wasn't trying to catch up to and stop his drunken friend from driving?

  • Car drivers suffer NO consequences. They will not take his car.  He will, once released, be allowed to drive again: wrist slap for endangering LI citizens and his kids.

He got a Honda to go 118 mph? And it appears he was going in the correct direction on the LIE. Congrats!

    Was it a rice rocket?

    "doofus dad"?

Come on NYPost, you're not good for much, but at least be good for cheesy puns.

  • Nice last sentence there. Very Gothamist

And why the heck was "Mister" italicized?

  • "The Matrix"

He's a good dad-the kids must have  wanted some fresh produce @ 2AM. He did what all responsible fathers would do–drive like a maniac to get them what they needed...

Until we require all drivers to be licensed and insured, this kind of thing will continue to happen.

    Damn bike lanes!

  • Peanut_Butter

Wait, I'm sorry, I thought drivers WERE required to be licensed and insured.

"Doofus" is a pretty tame thing to call him.

And yet people have to go all the way to China to adopt...
