Last Night's Action: Two Wins On The Ice

2008_12_islanderslogo.jpg John Tavares scored his first goal of the season 36 seconds into the game and the Islanders erupted for four total in the first period, on their way to a 5-1 win over Tampa. Tavares had another goal and two more assists for four points. Al Montoya stopped 34-of-35 shots for the win.

Patrik Elias scored his first goal of the season to tie things up at one in the first period, but the Devils couldn't score again in regulation or overtime, despite recording 37 shots on goal. In the shootout Kovalchuk and Parise both connected to give the Devils the 2-1 win. Johan Hedberg earned the win in relief of Martin Brodeur who is day-to-day with a shoulder injury.
