Jersey Shore Is Bad For New Jersey, Says New Jersey Residents

Is there a problem with this?
The numbers don't lie: a recent Quinnipac poll of New Jersey residents finds that—shocker!—they don't like the Jersey Shore.

67 percent of Jersey voters think the show is "bad" for the state, including 67 percent of young'uns under 35. It's unclear exactly what "bad" means, but we have a feeling it's less like "acrylic nails bad" and more like "moral erosion bad." 71 percent of voters say Governor Chris Christie "did the right thing" when he blocked the so-called "Snooki Subsidy" last month.

"Garden State voters agree overwhelmingly with Gov. Christopher Christie's decision to slam the door on Snooki, The Situation and the rest of the 'Jersey Shore' crew," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "Although there have been legal arguments against his decision, voters agree that Gov. Christie was 'duty bound' to do what he did." Ah, yes, Chris Christie: a real American hero, working valiantly to save the nation's youth from the horrors of spray tans.

  • People from the land of garbage dumps shouldn't be complaining that a few garbage dumps show up every summer.

  • Legione13

I agree; people from Staten Island have nothing to complain about... but how is that related to the post?

  • Large parts of New Jersey are bad for Jersey, but they can start to fix that with zoning changes and more municipality consolidations.   Jersey Shore is a whatever distraction from Jersey's real problems.  Christie's stuck around long enough to mess with the unions a bit and veto seriously-overdue/desperately-needed transportation infrastructure; I bet he ends up as the GOP VP candidate; by then he'll have had the time to 'fix' Jersey by solving the snooki tax subsidy.

  • Legione13

Well, it's not like the gigantic deficit under Corzine was "fixing" Jersey.

  • BrooklynDnB

You seriously have something wrong if you admire these people. So classless. Money can't even buy that.

And here we have a post on Jersey Shore, which turns into a post on Chris Christie.

Again - why is Gothamist so friggin' obsessed with Chris Christie?

  • ANGRYGOD11

Yes, its a bad image for NJ. But, the tourism numbers don't lie either. Thanks to this crappy show, people from around the world go to the Jersey Shore.

"people from around the world go to the Jersey Shore"

Bit of a stretch, dont cha think? I've lived in NY for many years now and never went to the Shore. Now that I've seen what it looks like thanks to Snooki, I assure you I will never go.

  • openheads

Yea, I hate all of those Snookie types antiquing & eating brunch in Cape May.
You cant possibly be stupid enough to think that show accurately depicts all of New Jersey's 127 miles of coastline. Then again, you seem to take your cultural ques from MTV, so..................

  • Well, that only goes for prejudiced dopes, like you.  Other people go there, who couldn't give a fuck less if some loud wops were dancing on the beaches.

  • To be fair, that's exactly how I pictured NJ residents before the show came out. And I lived in NJ for 6 years.

  • TheRealCannibal

how many more posts like this are you guys going to do?  Seriously?

  • Detex

seriously. You would think they were dancing in a bike lane or something!
