Listen: Al Sharpton Broadcasts Live From Zuccotti Park

The Reverend Al Sharpton is broadcasting his radio show live from Zuccotti Park to highlight the Occupy Wall Street protests, "to show that those that are raising issues on Wall Street are as concerned about the economy and that Blacks and Latinos have grave concerns about economic issues and jobs," his organization said in a statement. Sharpton just said that he wanted to bring down a group of ministers to spend the night to show that the movement "is about all of us." In that case: hide the cocaine! But why isn't Al putting them on his new TV show? Is he saything that the protesters have faces for radio?

A group called Occupy the Hood is attempting to garner more minority supporters for the mostly-white movement and Al Sharpton's support certainly couldn't hurt. We've personally noted the movement becoming increasingly more diverse, especially last Wednesday's march from Foley Square. Listen to Sharpton's program until 4 p.m. here.

Please, no one bring up the Reverend's tie in with a pay day loan company down South. You know, the one that's targeted towards the poor and our military families and has interest rates so high they should be collected by a guy named Nunzio.

He really, really cares about the downtrodden. As long as they keep him in suits and chicken and waffles.

It's nice that the terminally perennial 'underclass' has a 'spokesperson'. . .
even if he can't 'spoke' too well at all!  <-(Where-O'Where is Tawana Brawley when you really need her?!)

  • Too bad some people cannot accept Reverend Al Sharpton's invitation to the party.  He was, after all, at the forefront of speaking out for those without a voice.  Exactly what is taking place with the movement in Zuccotti Park today.

Simmons didn't like Fox's Charles Payne bringing up his Debit Card business. Hypocrite.

Oh good - I was waiting for The Voice of Reason to show up.

Al Sharpton shows up an the trolls come lumbering out, each of them with the bizarre notion that their opinions mean anything.

I've gotta say... I just came from Zuccotti... the rally now seems more positive than it's been in the past.  Very little avarice.  Which is nice.

  • That's good to hear, because that was one of my turnoffs to the protests at first.  One of my concerns were some of the people who were really just anarchists antagonizing the police and getting a lot of other people hurt.

  • Colonel_Ingus

Yeah, I agree.  I was turned off pretty severely when I was first there.  Looked like a bunch of kids just looking for any attention with no purpose.  But now it seems that their message is starting to gel up quite a bit.  But what do I know...

There's a pretty interesting article from a pretty bright guy

named Gregory Djerejianwho who is a financial services professional and a Burkean conservative who has high hopes for OWS. He also thinks OWS should continue efforts to resist issuing demands yet. It's a good read.

Just Google his name, "Occupy Wall Street: An Early Assessment" and Belgravia Dispatch

  • Colonel_Ingus

Thanks, I'll give it a read.

  • EdwardAmame

My pleasure. I'd like to hear (I mean read) what you think.

  • shocktheday

Weed and sex does that to people.

  • Where's the diversity in any of those links you posted?  Also I'm a little cynical when the official stamp of diversity is the tired troupe of bringing out Al Sharpton as the defacto voice and representative of all things minority....

  • EdwardAmame

Plenty of black and brown faces in the photo from Wash Sq Park with the arch in the background, Daniel. See the link to Photos: Peaceful Occupy Wall Street March Followed By Violent Clash...

  • I keep hearing this! I don't really see it in any of the photos.  Trust me I would, my computer's color space is set to register millions of colors for my work!
