Michael Moore Heads To Saint Mark's Bookshop Thursday Night (9/29)

sep2711moore.jpg The struggling St. Mark's Bookshop is getting an assist from an infamous supporter of the underdog: Michael Moore! The rabble-rousing filmmaker, who spent his Monday night visiting with the Wall Street Occupiers, is planning to visit the bookstore tomorrow night for a signing.

Apparently, Moore reached out to the bookstore on his own accord, which seems fitting. "St. Mark’s Bookshop is thrilled to host an impromptu stock signing for Michael Moore’s fantastic new memoir Here Comes Trouble this Thursday, September 29 at 7 p.m. We’re playing it by ear, but we will have a mic ready for Mr. Moore. What better way is there to end a day of protesting Wall Street?" writes Margarita Shalina from the Bookshop. "I know this is last-minute, but we literally just found out about it ourselves," she added. Swing by and show your support for both the independent bookstore and the value of speaking up in one fell swoop!

  • Please help save St. Mark's Bookstore! One of the best bookstores in NY and one of the last bastions of culture in the east village. http://signon.org/sign/save-th.... Also for all you Michael Moore fans, Democracy Now! did a great interview with him this morning, latest the whole hour. Very funny not to mention interesting: http://www.democracynow.org/20....

Walk in the main entrance by the cashier, swing to the first two shelf columns on your left, if you can't find a good book you haven't heard about you either work in publishing & got everything early or are illiterate.

Last, best mainstream bookstore in New York. A daylight anchor for the whole area.

Apparently Moore has good taste in venues.

But not good taste in film making.

  • Depends on your taste, documentaries aren't for everyone. I think his documentaries over the last few decades have been some of the best out there, even Fox News said they really liked Sicko. If you think his recent stuff is too liberal for you, go back and watch his first movie, Roger and Me.

It's not his politics I have a problem with; contrary to what most people on this site believe, I enjoy many "liberal" things. My problem with his "documentaries" is his refusal to show the entire story. I enjoy documentaries that educate, not propagandize. His films, for the most part, should be listed under satire, not documentary.  I like his ideas, I just don't like his execution of them.
