Last Night's Action: No Wins Here

2008_12_yankeeslogo.jpg Other than figuring out a playoff roster, the Yankees don't have anything to play for over the final three games of the year. Tampa, on the other hand, is fighting for its playoff life. That makes Tampa's 5-2 win unsurprising at best. The Rays took advantage of Hector Noesi, who was making the second start of his career. James Shields stymied the Yankees, allowing only six hits and two runs while falling one out short of a complete game. The win by Tampa and a Red Sox loss means the two teams are tied for the final playoff spot in the AL.

Chris Schwinden allowed two earned runs over five innings and left with the lead, but the Mets bullpen couldn't hold it in their 6-5 loss. Jose Reyes pulled into a tie with Ryan Braun for the NL batting title with a 3-for-4 night. Tim Byrdak suffered the loss as he gave up two earned runs while not recording an out.
