A week after being kidnapped from a children's service agency, eight siblings—seven boys named Nephra Payne and a baby girl named Nefertiti Payne—were found in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania yesterday. The children had been taken by their biological parents, Shanel Nadal and Nephra Payne, during Nadal's supervised visit with the kids. A tip led the NYPD to Pennsylvania.

According to WHP, "Nadal and Payne spent the days since last Wednesday driving to South Carolina, and then back to Harrisburg where Payne has family." The couple had been living in a van with the kids, ages 11 months to 11 years. The NYPD tracked them down the Nadal, 28, and Payne, 34, were taken into custody. This morning, Nadal was arraigned on $200,000 bail this morning and has an extradition hearing. WHP adds, "Payne was reportedly taken to the hospital, but there's no word as to why."

According to the Daily News, the children were found in "good condition" and placed back with the Administration for Children's Services. The foster mother of one of the children had said that Nadal appeared to be planning to take her children back for a while, "I guess she was desperate and looked for any opening."

Hopefully the boys have had hair cuts since these pictures were taken.

    "Nephra!"

    "What?"
    "What?"
    "What?"
    "What?"
    "What?"
    "What?"
    "What?"

"No - that one - John!  Come here!"

Glad that the kids were found in good health and I hope the mother gets some help - it must be a desperate time for her if she tried to pull this off.

Seriously. She's 28 and has an 11 year old--which means she was no older than 17 and he was 23 when they started having babies. I can't help but feel like she's been taken advantage of for over a decade.

that's such a nice way of putting it.

  • Obviously these people are from the George Forman school of child naming.

Not for nothing, but anybody else wonder why it took so long to catch a group this large? It's like trying to hide the Brady bunch.

I'm surprised the FBI didn't get involved - isn't transporting kidnapping victims across state lines a federal offence?

Either way - living in a van, I'm surprised they didn't turn themselves in.  Must have been one stinky ride towards the end.

It's not in the article above, but the FBI did get involved in this case.
