Eat Out, Do Good This Weekend

A quick reminder that many of our farmer friends in upstate New York were hit hard by Irene—remember the sad pumpkins? Guess what though? You can help this weekend, by doing little more than eating out at one of the dozens of restaurants that have banded together for Dine Out Irene.

Participating restaurants will donate up to 10 percent of their proceeds from this Sunday, September 25, to aid local farms that have been hurt by the storm. The roster of restaurants and food businesses on board is impressive—here's the full list—but highlights include Betto, Buttermilk Channel, Fatty Crab/Cue/Snack, Franny's, Hill Country, Marc Forgione, Northern Spy, Telepan and all 'wichcrafts across the city. The funds will go directly to GrowNYC and Just Food, who will distribute them to area farms. If you ever want to see the words "locally-grown" on a menu again, hop to it.

Would it be so bad if some of these restaurants donated more than 10% for one day? really, just 10%?
