Since he got released from prison for literally and metaphorically shooting himself in the foot, new Jets wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been quite forthcoming in interviews about his time in prison, and his bruised feelings toward what happened to him. But in an October issue of Men’s Journal, Plax unleashes his angriest tirade against the haters, former friends, and Mayors who let him down and/or pissed him off: "[in jail] they treated me like a f------ axe murderer. 23-hour lockdown, noncontact visiting, and only a Bible to read. Nobody deserves to live like that, man."

Burress criticizes former teammate Eli Manning, whom he says essentially abandoned him while he was in prison: "I was always his biggest supporter, even days he wasn't on, 'cause I could sense he didn't have thick skin. Then I went away, and I thought he would come see me, but nothing, not a letter, in two years. I don't want to say it was a slap in the face, but I thought our relationship was better than that." Manning acknowledged that he didn't see Burress while he was in jail.

Burress also was angry at Mayor Bloomberg, whom he had never heard of before his arrest: "The way Bloomberg treated me was totally wrong, stacked those charges so high I had to go to jail." Bloomberg, who has campaigned righteously against illegal guns, had been extra snarky in the build up to Plaxico's prosecution, saying at one press conference, "Of course, I don't have to be here. I could be at a Giants game, but I am probably safer here at the moment."

But Burress saved most of his bile for former coach Tom Coughlin, especially since he saw him on TV commenting on the situation, “and the first words out his mouth was ‘sad and disappointing.’ ” Burress felt disrespected: "I'm like, forget support—how about some concern? I did just have a bullet in my leg. And then I sat in his office, and he pushed back his chair and goes, 'I'm glad you didn't kill anybody!' Man, we're paid too much to be treated like kids. He doesn't realize that we're grown men and actually have kids of our own."

On the positive side, Burress gets to play under Rex Ryan, a hero to us all, is back with his family, and has been getting actual fan mail: "It’s like I’m more popular now for shooting myself than winning a Super Bowl! Maybe they see a guy who made a mistake, but didn’t hurt no one but himself. I mean, if you can’t root for me, you must not own a mirror.”
