Woman Killed, Two Others Injured In Brooklyn Shooting

A shooting outside a bodega on Weirfield and Bushwick Avenue has left a 23-year-old women dead and a 13-year-old and 21-year-old injured. According to the Daily News, "All three had just stepped out of Bed-Stuy Supermarket and Deli on Weirfield St. at Bushwick Ave., where they had bought sandwiches and sodas, when a gunman approached them." The cashier said, "He takes the gun out and starts shooting."

Witnesses said they heard about nine shots fired. The woman was dead on arrival, while the boy, who was hit in the arm, and man, who was hit in the back, are in stable condition. Yesterday, the NY Times noted that the Labor Day weekend violence—"13 people had been killed and 67 injured in 52 shootings since early Friday"—showed how Mayor Bloomberg's criticism of illegal guns only went so far.

the bed-stuy deli is on the corner of weirfield and broadway not bushwick ave, right under the J train.

This did not occur on Bushwick and Weirfield. Not from the pictures on that news site and not from what I saw. It occured on Broadway and Weirfield- a small but important distinction. Bushwick and Weirfield has MUCH less traffic. Broadway and Weirfield is right outside the Halsey Street Station on the J/Z and there are always people there. I live on that block and heard the gunfire from my apartment last night/witnessed the subsequent chaos. The girl died outside a church right next to the Bodega on Broadway and Weirfield. The other two ran down the block and were found on Bushwick and Weirfield. It really has me freaked out since it happened right in the middle of my route home.

Jackson heights, flushing and cobble hill are scary places, son. Folks should move to East NY and Brownsville where they'd be safe.

I'm sure thenab is playing the percentages. Sure, yes, we do see whites involved in workplace or school shootings. But let's go back and see who were involved in the "13 people had been killed and 67 injured in 52 shootings since early Friday" shootings.

poor urban = violent? the average family in chinatown makes less per household but has strong cultural binds that leads them in a totally different direction. the problem is the culture. ex: 66% of Black children do not live with their biological father. 80% of African Americans can expect to spend “a
significant” portion of their childhood living without their biological
father.
