Was Thousand Island Dressing Invented In NYC? New Film Aims To Find Out

Who brought you here?
Filmmakers Eric J. Roberts and Andrea Reeves are on a mission to discover where Thousand Island dressing came from, because (if you didn't already know) its origins are a mystery! One theory is that George Boldt, proprietor of the Waldorf-Astoria, instructed a maitre d’ at the hotel's restaurant to make it. According to Wikipedia (mystery solved?), Boldt received the recipe from actress May Irwin, who first tried it in the Thousand Islands region between the U.S. and Canada.

According to Syracuse.com, the two Central New Yorkers have been filming the two-hour documentary (which will include historic re-enactments!) all summer, and hope for it to air on PBS and/or a food or travel channel. They'll be in NYC filming as well, and ask that anyone with "historic evidence related to the origins of Thousand Island Dressing" email them at: 1000islandmystery@mail.com.

The mayo-based dressing often includes ingredients like ketchup, vinegar, Worcestershire Sauce, chili sauce, paprika, and chopped up items like pickles, onions, peppers, hard-boiled egg, and olives (make your own at home!).

It's the same thing....I hope the doc explains why no one knows what 1000 island is when I ask for it in NY given that it was allegedly invented here.

Theory #3: Chad the half Belgian kid was stoned as hell and needed something to dip his fries in. Only had spoonful of mayo left. Added spoon of ketchup. History was made.
