Upset Over Long Irene-Related Power Outage, Man Allegedly Threatens To Bomb LIPA

2011_08_bombthreat.jpg It's has taken nearly a week to bring electricity back to 99% of the hundreds of thousands of Long Island Power Authority customers who lost power when Hurricane Irene knocked it out, but some Long Islanders are really upset. Like Rajiv Pandey, a Central Islip 33-year-old, who was arrested for allegedly calling News 12 and saying he would plant a bomb at a LIPA facility on Friday.

According to Newsday, "The threat prompted police to dispatch officers to more than 30 facilities to check for an explosive. An investigation revealed that bomb threat call was placed from Pandey's cellphone." Pandey was arrested yesterday and is charged with falsely reporting an incident. Last week, a Hicksville man was arrested for aggravated threat when he allegedly called Nassau County emergency management and made threats against LIPA.

My wife and I moved back into our house in New Orleans at the end of October 2005.  That was about 2 months after Katrina.  We spent the next six months gutting the house and redoing the downstairs alone, without any help.  We would go to work every day and come home and work on the house at night and on the weekends. We did not have gas or electricity until just before Christmas of 2005.  This guy is without power for a week and threatens to plant a bomb? What would happen up there if something like Katrina hit? I shudder to think.

    Wow that is some cranium.

    Agreed!
Such a large cranium.  Evidently with so little grey matter...

What a whiner! Residents in Nassau County pay the highest property taxes in the country and some of them are still w/o power, do you see them making bomb threats, hothead?

Shouldn't have shut the nuclear plant then.

  • carrots328

uh, you realize you'll just be without power for longer if you do that, right?

Judging from the picture, that guy couldn't seriously threaten to walk and chew bubblegum at the same time.

LIPA sucks royally-you shouldn't be making bombs threats though...

  • Ragingsemi
