Homeland Security Doesn't Think Al Qaeda Has 9/11 Anniversary Plot

2011_08_napol.jpg Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano spoke to the editorial board of the Dallas Morning-News and believed that if a 9/11-style plot would not happen today. However, she admitted, "There are no guarantees," though there is more intelligence sharing, "better targeting of airline passengers who need 'special attention,'and background checks at flight schools." Also, maybe White House officials should take White House Briefs titled "Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US" seriously.

She also doesn't think there is an anniversary plot, "While there is no specific or credible intelligence that al-Qaeda or its affiliates are plotting attacks in the United States to coincide with the 10 year anniversary of 9/11, we remain at a heightened state of vigilance and security measures are in place to detect and prevent plots against the United States should they emerge.

i thought the bin laden hideout raid yielded some anniversary attack discussion documents.  am i the only one who heard that?

plus 9/11 was planned in part for maximum disruption since it was the local elections.  AQ likes striking on significant dates.

the DHS message sounds like it was politicized to prop up the lifeless economy --don't want travelers and consumers to stay home. 'everyone don't panic and please KEEP SHOPPING.'

  • It's nice to see government agencies working together to keep Americans safe.  Cooperation between Homeland Security, FBI, CIA & Al Qaeda is humming like it has never hummed before.  Kudos to the federales!

  • At what cost? Civil liberties were taken away with no "sunset provisions" or expiration dates for the most egregious acts.

  • I totally agree with you my comment was complete sarcasm
