Would-Be Brooklyn Rapist Strikes In Park Slope Again

Since early Spring, an unidentified man has been roaming Park Slope, Sunset Park, and Bay Ridge in search of rape victims. Last Friday night police believe he struck again, attempting to rape a woman he followed from the Prospect Avenue subway station about 8:30 p.m. If this is the same perpetrator, he broke from his pattern of targeting women under cover of darkness—the other four attacks that police say are connected happened between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. In this case, the man reportedly grabbed the woman from behind at Prospect and Sixth Avenues, but she broke free and scared him off.

The suspect, described as Hispanic, 25 to 30 years old, 5-feet-7, 165 pounds, has been trying to rape women in the area for months, police say, and has succeeded once, on June 4th when he allegedly followed a woman home from a Dunkin' Donuts and raped her in her Sunset Park vestibule. After surveillance video was released from the Dunkin' Donuts, livery cab driver William Giraldo turned himself in. Giraldo maintains he's innocent, but while the rape victim picked him out of a lineup, the three other women who fended off rape attacks did NOT pick him out of a lineup.

Giraldo claims he drove a fare to JFK Airport right after stopping at Dunkin' Donuts, and police sources tell the Daily News they believe he'll be cleared by a grand jury. Which puts us right back to square one on the scumbag actually responsible for the attacks, one of which was chillingly documented by a Park Slope stoop surveillance camera. That's the same video the cops responding to the 911 call reportedly weren't interested in taking into evidence.

Prospect & 6th is technically "South Park Slope" or more recently is also considered a part of "Greenwood Heights" which itself was once a part of "Sunset Park". Both of these neighborhoods, The South Slope and lower Sunset Park/Greenwood Heights have become known as "Park Slope" to Real Estate agents and people who like to say that they live in "Park Slope". Just as "Prospect Heights" has spread over the border into what was once known of as "Crown Heights", The borders keep moving with the white people (and we're not talking about the Polish old-world type of white people). If the white people start moving out, the borders will follow them.

What does it matter what the area is called? And what is Park Slope and what isn't? Cities change. Get with the program, or move somewhere where real estate agents haven't 'spoiled' everything and where NY is still 'real' enough for you.

A woman was nearly raped. That's terrifying for women who live in this area, like me, who have to walk home from the Prospect Ave station at night, with the fear of being followed to our homes in area formerly known as fuck-if-i-care.
