The New York Blood Center Needs Help

Attention any of you who aren't skittish around a needle: The New York Blood Center needs your arms. The center had to cancel all of its drives on Sunday because of the storm, which means it lost out on about 2,000 donations.

The center, which serves people in the five boroughs, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and New Jersey, says that it needs all types of blood.

If you can help, please visit its website or call 1-800-933-2566 for more information.

  • Did it last week! O+ baby

  • NYCBuddy

I am not allowed to give blood because I am in a monogamous homosexual relationship, where neither of us has HIV or any other diseases.

  • I spent a couple years in Western Europe and thus I'm accused of having mad cow. I feel your pain.

  •  Be clear about this, please. The FDA, not blood agencies, made that decision and stands by it. The NYBC and other blood service organizations want it changed.

    Who freakin' cares?

Ooh, ooh, I know this one!

People who desperately need blood transfusions or else they die?

    What's my prize?

  • Jimbo853okg

I'm not talking about the act of giving blood; I personally give at least every 3 months. "Who cares" is in response to NYCBuddy saying why he/she can't. Talk about TMI!

  • I care, and you should too. Something like only 2% of people who can give blood actually do. That's pathetic. And doubly so that we don't allow healthy people to do it due to bigotry.
