Governor Cuomo's office has just released a statement: "We have reports of a 2.9 magnitude earthquake just west-southwest of Altamont, New York. Although this was a mild earthquake, out of an abundance of caution, I have ordered immediate inspection of nearby infrastructure, including a NYPA inspection of the Blenheim-Gilboa Dam in Schoharie County." Updates to follow.

[UPDATE] The USGS has confirmed that a 2.9 magnitude earthquake occurred about 3 miles west of Altamont, New York at around 10:40 a.m. Several earthquakes of similar magnitude have been measured recently in the same region.
