Videos: Fellow New Yorkers Document Their Earthquake Experience
Earthquake survivors.
Where were you when the earthquake of 2011 hit?! If you were videotaping something for YouTube, send us a link—because right now, the well is pretty dry. But there are some gems... which you can watch below.
Aw, these adorable surfers "in Williamsburg, aka Bushwick" were scared! They didn't know what to do so they made a video.
From Rockaway, Queens: "Kayla, you feel that? Kayla I got the lamp on video, it's shakin', where you at? Stay in the room! Kayla I think we're havin' an earthquake!"
A Staten Island tattoo shop filmed their piercing section shaking, and noted "fuckin' earthquake!"
Lights swaying in a Manhattan office:

This was an ad for Bushwick trustfunders- Note the fancy TV, and the fact they're home in the middle of the afternoon. That guys South African accent is nauseating too! Racist Dick!
Pls don't ever use a picture of some topless d-bag making that face as the thumbnail picture for your articles... ever.

Fun part: I pointed out *in a comment( that their second video was actually of the Japanese quake... didn't want to be too judgey, but I called them chumps.
So they took down the video (fine) but also my comment. As in, it never happened.
A minor quibble, I concede, but it does indicate the standard of "journalism" being practiced.

be careful, you could get banned pointing those things out on this blog. they practice the "memory hole" brand of editorial. that's why I post as SPsGhost - SP was murdered after admonishing Gothamist for their lack of integrity.

More likely it was your gratuitous use of the word "asshole" in most of your posts including those directed at the editors.

Damn. I may not be far behind then.

Q: Why is an earthquake in NYC scary?
A: It's scary because none of the buildings are earthquake proof like they are in CA, many of the buildings are built on top of ancient subway tunnels, sewer and gas pipes. I was in a skyscraper and this was the first time I was in an earthquake and experienced the building sway from side to side. I felt like I was on a boat.
This was no biggie in CA terms, but the logistics of an earthquake in NYC are crippling -- this infrastructure is not equipped for earthquakes.
I experienced Loma Prieta Quake of 89 grew up in CA, but I'm so glad I was at work and not at my tiny apartment that is 100+ years old.

A little rumble and some lazy hipster gets tossed out of bed at 2 in the afternoon. How come this bum doesn't have a job?

Not everybody has a 9-to-5 job and weekends off. Some of us work late at night and during the weekend. Duh.
Pretty much this. What I'm more concerned about was the cell network getting fried with traffic. If that happened for a little quake, I can only imagine how bad it'll get when the shit seriously hits the fan.

Whatever else the idiot in the top photo might have been doing, he should shave & take a shower.

A 5.8 (!) earthquake 285 miles from Brooklyn and hipsters can't cope. Priceless.
Rocknrope
Yeah, we get it, you're from the West Coast and deal with earthquakes better. Now why don't you fuck off back there.

What about me? Born & raised in NY, and this wasn't all scary. Certainly not the experience of a lifetime.

he's been on the same binge with all earthquake-related posts today.
