Rumor: Chris Christie Running Focus Groups For 2012 Presidential Run

Has someone talked Chris Christie down from the ledge at 30 Rock? Jonathan Alter, a political reporter for Bloomberg, just tweeted: "BREAKING: My sources say NJ Gov. Chris Christie is conducting focus groups in preparation for a possible run for president in 2012." Now everyone's all-a-Twitterin' about how Christie WONT be committing suicide.

On Sunday, the Times' token conservative Ross Douthat all but begged Christie to join the race, as he is widely viewed as the establishment's choice (including pal Rupert Murdoch). Just a few weeks ago Christie had a big conference call with potential donors and well wishers to let them down, telling them definitively (or so we thought), "I'm not running." Did Christie take a long look at Marine One and have a change of heart?

  • If there's one thing the Republican potential presidential candidate field needs, it's another ultra-conservative, divisive nut who makes outlandish public statements without thinking them through.  Welcome to the circus, Chris.

  • Colonel_Ingus

Wow, somebody's politically different from you, so you guys heap on the ad hominem attacks.  Classy.

  • LtWorf

Not exactly. I don't enter political affiliation into my ridicule of one's weight. If someone is fat, they are fat. Being a fat Democrat doesn't make one less corpulent, and thus, less deserving of my ridicule.

  • Colonel_Ingus

Fat people are to be ridiculed.  Got it.

But I'd hazard to guess a story about Michael Moore wouldn't be first met with three comments about his weight.

I've got no love for Christie, but it's not because he's fat.

  • Phillip Collector

Christie's so fat he can't even run a fever.

  • LtWorf

Chris Christie shouldn't be running focus groups, he should be running his ass around the block, at least 20 times a day.

  • TimSPC

    That poor helicopter.
