Michele Bachmann Enjoys Leading Iowa Pack, Foot-Long Corn Dog

Today, Iowa is (kind of) important. At the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Republican presidential hopefuls are jockeying for a momentum boost in the Ames Straw Poll, which is an early test of organizational mettle going into the Iowa caucuses in the winter. It's an opportunity for candidates to get heckled, eat fried food, and laugh at Ron Paul. This year, the top three candidates are likely to be Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, and Tim Pawlenty, but yesterday, only one candidate displayed the guts to swallow the competition.

Toby Harnden of the Telegraph snapped this photo of Bachmann eating a "foot-long corn dog—a chicken and beef sausage in deep fried batter." After an application of mustard (no ketchup? seems socialist to us) "she chomped into it with gusto." Perhaps Tina Brown and Newsweek should have waited another week for a photo more befitting of Bachmann's "intensity," because this is the face of someone who has peered into the chasm of the Oracle at Delphi and is brimming with visions (delirious, meaty visions) of America's bright future.

Hey, if I ever see a Democrat hoovering a dog like Bachmann here, I'm going double-barrel on them too.

Just calling out Clinton because she is / dresses 'mannish' is poor taste. I'm not going to insult or make jokes about Bachmann, Palin, whoever solely on their looks or their attire. Much the same as I'll never make a Sarah Jessica Parker "horse-face" joke.

I make fun of them for their actions. And you have to admit, this one's a doozy.

Come on now. How come none of the MALE candidates were photographed eating a foot long hot dog? I'm no fan of Bachman but, taking, and publishing this photo is clearly sexist and crude. The remarks above sound like they were written by adolescents on a high school bathroom wall. Will the dirty minded boys ever learn to respect women and stop objectifying them?
