Republican Running For Weiner's Seat Loves To Invoke 9/11

Republican Bob Turner is running for Anthony Weiner's Congressional seat in a special election against Democrat David Weprin this September 13. He has former mayor Ed Koch's endorsement (Koch is trying to get back at President Obama over Obama's stance on Israel) but now he's venturing into Rudy Giuliani territory—by opposing the so-called "Ground Zero" mosque. Check out this Turner ad attacking Weprin for supporting the Park 51 community center (which would include a mosque) proposed for blocks from Ground Zero, calling the mosque "a purposeful and confrontational act of provocation":

Weprin issued a statement, "As we approach the tenth anniversary of 9/11, it's shameful that Bob Turner is trying to use the tragedy for his own political gain." But Turner has been all over the Park 51 project for a while—last September, he posted a graphic of the 9/11 attacks at the World Trade Center to his Facebook page and insisting that the mosque would be located at Ground Zero. PolitickerNY points out, "The spot could appeal to the relatively conservative strain in the Ninth Congressional District," which has a large Jewish population.

A former aide to Turner wrote an op-ed explaining what Turner needs to do in order to beat Orthodox Jew Weprin with includes, "Bob Turner needs to go to Israel now. He needs to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and top Israeli officials to discuss the needs of the Jewish State. He should take a tour of the West Bank and the border towns and see the threat to Israel, up front and personal."

I thought that debate was put out of its misery some time ago, thanks for stoking up a heaping pile shit for us Bob.  Bob, you lost my vote.  What the hell would you do about stopping wars we just blew a trillion dollars on you fucking jackass! We could have rebuilt all the infrastructure we needed to to cut our petroleum imports to near nothing with that money, but instead we let the terrorists win by doing exactly what they wanted, for us to blow our wad on militarism, just like the soviets. Read Dimitri Orlov's blog if you want to make sense of the soviet comparison and the coming collapse.

    /fixed it... AND FUBO.

Well first of all, it's not "Weiner's seat". That seat belongs to the people of the district. And secondly, this district was suffered an inordinate amount of first responder losses on 9/11, so his position on the mosque is entirely reasonable.

Yes, it is entirely reasonable that a candidate for office may lie from start to finish and pander to the most ignorant and bigoted voters in an attempt to win their votes.  That doesn't make it right to do so, but he certainly has a reason for doing it.

Except the Park 51 center is not only a mosque, it is 2 blocks north of Ground Zero, and Bob Turner has now revealed himself to be a simpleton (i.e. a typical republican who only sees these things in black and white).

I don't know much about this whole mosque thing only what I have heard from other people but why would we allow terrorists to have a base here in Manhattan. Something seems off in this story.

Because we know ALL 1.6 billion Muslims in the world are terrorists, just like we know ALL 2 billion Christians are child rapists.

Ed Koch needs to stfu.  That old jerk, who ignored AIDS and used his third term as Mayor to run a losing campaign for Governor while ignoring the city wants to send YET ANOTHER REPUBLICAN TO DC.....Ed, your time is up. Shut up and go away.
