If Sesame Street wants a gay marriage arc, and I believe it's about damned time, fine, But use human characters, Bert and Ernie were originally the metaphor for Frank Oz and Jim Henson, two very different, but straight men. I know that gay men adopted them as icons but that is a misreading of the creator's intent.

Not just through the street, but through parents kids should learn, and i think something so pure in not usually sturring up political problems, sesame street should just stay out of it. I am completely fine with gay marriage and lifestyle and i think it is awesome that Rod and Ricky from avenue Q got married but, I think that making Ernie and Bert a Gay couple will actually decrease the amount of viewers on sesame street due to those who don't agree with gay marriage and lifestyle. If sesame workshop wants to expose Gay marriage to children, why not create a couple of characters to do so, instead of using a friendship of Frank Oz and Jim Henson. This would be great to adress to kids in my opinion but not through Bert and Ernie.
