Singer Gavin DeGraw Brutally Beaten While Intoxicated In The East Village

smalldegraw0811.jpg Last night TMZ was reporting that pop singer Gavin DeGraw was brutally beaten after a night out in New York City, noting he was still in Bellevue Hospital under observation. Today some more details come to light, with the Daily News reporting that DeGraw was intoxicated when he left a restaurant in the East Village at around 4 a.m. yesterday morning. On 1st Avenue between 5th and 6th streets he was accosted and brutally beaten by a group of men, after being separated from his friends, according to ABC. And his drunken nightmare didn't end there...

The singer then stumbled away and was hit by a cab at around 4:30 a.m., on 3rd Avenue and 19th Street, though he was reportedly not seriously injured by that incident.

DeGraw is said to be in stable condition, with a broken nose and other cuts to the face. Police are currently investigating, but no arrests have been made in the alleged beating. DeGraw has been touring with Maroon 5 and Train, and had to cancel tonight's show due to his injuries. Everyone light a candle and sing "Drops of Jupiter," and we'll get through this thing somehow.

A great number of the comments made here are quite sick to say the least.

THIS IS NOT THE FUCKING EAST VILLAGE YOU DUMBASSES!!  Clearly this happened in the very problematic Lower East Side...which has been taken over by hoodrats and underaged punk mother fuckers from NJ!! Shit, they probably followed his drunk ass out of his bar, The National Underground, in where else.....the LOWER EAST SIDE....

Damn, NYC is changing for the worst because of stupid and poor idiots.

  • Gwinny

1st Avenue and 5th Street is very much the East Village. Most people these days consider the Lower East Side to be everything below Houston from the Bowery eastward. In any case, the LES is *hardly* problematic, and the NJ problem you refer to seems to be more symptomatic of the West Village, near the PATH train stations.

LOL @ NYC trying to blame it on New Jersey.
"The Greatest City In The World"?
I fondly remember when the gay guy got beat up outside of McDonald's in The Village & all of you were on here screaming about how it must, must be one of those assholes from NJ. Alas, the actor was from....................... Brooklyn. Get the fuck out of here.

  • I'm trying to follow you.

Are you saying they followed him from his bar and beat him up on 1st ave and 5th?  Or are you saying they beat him up elsewhere and he doesn't exactly remember where, and is just guessing at 1st and 5th?  Because if it's the former, then that's considered the East Village, no?

And the idiots you refer to, are you speaking of drunks like Gavin or the dudes he says put the beat on him?

  • Gothampc

Maybe he should hump (er I mean convince) Ryan Murphy into putting his music on Glee so that he can get exposure to a wider audience.

  • pendejito

Had this dude had a 9-5 job like I do, he wouldn't have been out at 4am on a Monday morning. Another rich guy getting beat up, who cares?

  • ktinnyc

You don't say? I'm glad you're finally pointing out the fact that famous people get attention others don't get. This is really something nobody has pointed out before. Thanks for teaching us something new today!

  • pendejito

No thank you for keeping me in check. Glad I have you to keep me grounded and put everything in perspective.

It actually had nothing to do with famous people getting attention, mostly that I don't care about people who have it made while I have to slave at work and bills to pay. Whether they be famous or not.

  • chancho2000 doesn't care.

I see. But yet here you are crying about one of those people.

  • That is a half block from the ninth precinct. Amazing.

  • J_Temperance

These violent crimes against homosexuals really need to be stopped.

  • souper_crackers

At least he might rustle up some royalties from this tussle.

  • Guest

He walked 15 blocks at 4am after a brutal beating? It can be hard to get a cab at 4am on a Sunday. That's the entire East Village, though.

  • even famous ppl get beat up when drunk wandering around at 4AM - wow shocker

  • airtech1

Feel bad for the guy, even if he's sporting his skully in 90+ degree weather.
