Video: Are These People Praying To Jesus For The Subway To Arrive?

8611subway.jpg

In the video below, a group of non-New Yorkers burst into singing and praying in unison while waiting for the subway to arrive in Times Square. Their effervescent shouts of "encore!" leave the New Yorkers in the foreground looking decidedly unenthusiastic. But assuming that they were praying for the N/Q/R to arrive, it seems their prayers were answered, so maybe we should pay a little more attention to this whole Flying Spagetti Monster thing. Perhaps there really is a higher power than the MTA involved in all of our comings and goings.

Then again, maybe they were praying for the economy, per Texas Gov. Rick Perry's advice—after all, it worked like a charm that time Perry issued an official state proclamation for "Days of Prayer for Rain in Texas."

if you live in NYC and actually go to times square, thats your problem.

  • Religion is like your penis: don't wave it around in public, and don't shove it down your kid's throat.

I wish that had been my yearbook quote.

I wish I could mark this as 'liked' more than once.

I felt like I did because I liked your comment too!

Whatever dumb shit it is that you do isn't automatically cool because you did it in Grand Central/Times Square/Union Square/in front of a bunch of people just trying to go about their lives.

  • And then they wonder why New Yorkers are so hostile.

  • birdtird

I know, how much shit do people expect us to take before we go all perma "fuck off"

  • nothing more than a demonstration of extreme vanity.

I know I often pray for the trains to show up on time-my prayers are seldom answered

  • this is a little better than having to listen to the train preacher scream at you

Are we considering all singing to now be a form of prayer now?

  • Gwinny

Ugh. Also, the sign in the video says Times Square, not Grand Central.

However, for some reason there is a prayer circle that pops up every once in a while outside one of the turnstiles in the Grand Central subway station, though. Annoying as crap.

  • Gwinny

OK, now it's been edited to say Times Square in the post.

  • colonelcasey

I guess they want to pray that the train will come instead of trusting that countdown clock above their heads?

  • Dan

    wow, that is annoying.

  • Roger_the_Shrubber

Separation of church and subway! This is an outrage. I certainly hope no atheists or muslims were traumatized by this.

au contraire, subway preachers display perfectly just how goofy and counterfeit the whole notion of religion really is. thanks for coming out!

I am, and I am suing the MTA, the City, the State and the Vatican...not that these people seemed Catholic, I just thought I should get a little piece of the Pope.
