Can we stop calling people who take advantage of teenagers pedophiles? Pedophilia is a term that speicfically and only relates to prepubescent children. Pedophiles would not have sex with a 16-year old, as they are too old. If you want to call them something other than sick, twisted or child molesters, the correct term is ephebophile.

Sorry but "ephebophile" just doesn't run off the tongue as nicely as pedophile.

Of course she didn't, you were a trusted figure and in a powerful position in her community. She had no reason to distrust you, until you started feeling her up. 

Listen, the whole "pedophiles becoming priests or vice versa?" thing is almost beside the point-- or well, I shouldn't say that, but it is ambiguous & arguable.  What ISN'T up for debate is the widespread culture & practice in the Catholic Church of covering this stuff up.  On an institutional level.

And the Catholic Church is in a tizzy about Gay Marriage.  But they have covered up molestation for decades!

A Catholic priest that molests GIRLS?????

This is so sad for this young girl. She is to be
commended for speaking up and taking action.

Hopefully others, who have witnessed,
suspected, or may have been harmed by Father
Jaime Duenas, will find the courage and strength to
speak up, call police, expose wrongdoers, and protect others

It is extremely rate that a child predator has only
one victim.

We must stop thinking that because a man is old, that
somehow he’s automatically “safe.” It’s just irresponsible to endanger kids by
assuming an adult is “harmless” simply because he or she may be losing hair,
wearing glasses, using hearing aids or walking with a cane. These can be signs
of advancing age, but they are not signs that an individual is safe around
kids.

You never see Christians protesting their priests, no long parades of dumb signs and loud mouths begging to be heard.

They only protest "evil homosexuals" and other shit that ain't their business.

Was the massage the molestation?  Or did something else happen?  The articles are unclear.

There's a pretty wide gulf between a touchy-feely type springing a surprise shoulder rub on you and molestation.  Or maybe there's not.

If it happens multiple times over a few days, it probably got progressively more grope-y than a simple shoulder rub.  

What I'm not seeing is who reported it. I'm guessing the girl told her parents after the dirty vicar went too far and then they went to the police. 

Molestation is unwanted touching. Even if it was just her shoulders it's still a violation. 

And given that he's charged with endangering her welfare, I'm guessing that in NY, 16 is below the age of consent. So it doesn't matter if she "didn't protest".

Here's something to throw in the pot of pedophiles... How many pedophiles aren't clergymen at all?  

What a miscarriage of justice! She was wearing  "short skirts", sounds like she practically raped him!

I hate to say this but i think it would be in the Catholic church's better interest to try to get their priests to touch 16 year old girls instead of 10 year old boys.
