Spotted: MTV Is Trying To Make "Hipstra" Happen

hipsterlarge0711.jpg

MTV has a new show coming out centered around a group of friends in their young 20s grappling "with dating, romance and becoming adults" in New York City. It's called I Just Want My Pants Back, adapted from the book, and they're looking for some "hipstras"! Miss Heather spotted this flyer in Greenpoint, which explains exactly what a hipstra is:

"It's a hipster that does paid extra work on MTV's TV series I Just Want My Pants Back... Are you interested? If so send an email with a snapshot and phone number with 'HIPSTRA' in the subject line to pants@gwcnyc.com! We are shooting in and around THIS HOOD!"

Still, why the term "hipstra"? We contacted the above email to find out more. Though were guessing they just didn't want to use the much-maligned "H word"—even if they did get their flyer art from the first two Google image search photos to turn up for the word "hipster."

Ive seen this pants crew around and I want to knock them out.  They are rude pieces of shit.  For some reason I didn't realize it was MTV related.  now that I know I will go out of my way to sabotage them any way I can.

  • You can sort of see pictures of "hipstra" qualities that they are looking for on the edge of the flyer: ironic trucker hat, high school sports tee shirt, skull purse, etc. Those appear to be straight out of the 2003 "Hipster Handbook"...I don't think people are really into those things anymore. They are also looking to cast two kinds of beer, an 8 foot tall man, and a 4 foot tall girl. This flyer is pretty terrible.

  • sooo...how much are they offering?

Hmm... they're looking for hipster extras. What could this mysterious term "hipstra" have to do with hipster extras?
