Shake Shack Ripoff Owner "Surprised" That People Noticed The Similarities

Yesterday, we told you about Milk Burger, the new burger joint in Harlem with a menu suspiciously similar to Shake Shack's, and a ganked photo of a Shackburger on their website to boot. Now, the owner of Milk Burger is claiming he's innocent, blaming the flub on, of course, an intern.

Owner Eric Mayor said he was "shocked" by the accusations, explaining that the Milk Burger website and was created by an apparently unsupervised intern. Mayor has since removed the offending photo on the site and replaced it with this image instead, and a note that all the traffic caused his servers to crash and the site will be back up soon. "It's exciting to even be compared to a giant like [Danny Meyer]," said Mayor, who claims that the biggest difference between his burgers and the Shack's are that his "don't cause the bloating that the Shack Burger [does]." Right. The bloating.

Hey, all publicity is good publicity, right? So far, the place has actually been getting some pretty positive Yelp reviews, and since it's not looking like Danny Meyer plans to open a Shake Shack in Harlem anytime soon, Mayor might be having the last laugh, after all.

So I went to MILK BURGER today after reading all the hype on over 53 magazines and blog sites.  I must say that I was in complete shock how damn good the burgers are.  I'm not from Harlem, in fact I live pretty damn far from it (Staten Island), and I'm sorry but I find the burger to be realllllly damn good.  Was definitely worth the trip.

  • I'm a photographer whose work gets ripped off all the time. They ALWAYS say it was an intern.

    It wasn't an intern.

Whatever - don't most cheeseburgers look similar?

Who cares if they Milk Burger copied ShakeShack, s*** happens all the time so Shake Shack should quit cryin'  -- if people want burgers from the Shack they will make the trip to one of it's  many locations.

  • always blame the intern.

Is anyone else chuckling at the fact their last names are similar too?

He's one of those guys who think he'll always come out on top no matter what. It's annoying.

  • GentleGiant

The owner didn't review the intern's work before it went live?

  • Guest

Serves you right when you let an intern run your business.

Will white people line up for a burger in Harlem?

  • airtech1

Sure, as long as the burger is cost-stabilized and has a polyurethane coating on it.

  • edgie168

They do it already for BBQ, so why not burgers?

  • longacre

They can get burgers anywhere, but not good BBQ.
