Here's a mashup of epic proportions: downtown New Wave favorites Blondie combined their beloved single "Rapture" with the Beastie Boy's "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)" at a show last week, with excellent results. Note that Debbie Harry continues to kill it with her perfectly chiseled cheekbones and razor-sharp platinum bob, proof that some rock stars age like a fine wine.
The "Party" action arrives just past the 6:00 mark:
Hopefully Harry and Co. will keep this new tradition alive at their upcoming shows in New York this fall, and who knows, maybe the band will make a cameo in the Boy's new top-secret video? Fingers crossed. [via NJ Underground]

Can someone explain to me why the Beastie Boys are anything? I am serious. I like them OK, but every song is the same. Is this intentional or something I don't get?

The Beastie Boys are fantastic, but mainstream media tends to focus on their Licensed to Ill-era wild child days, and that album is fine, but it is by no means comparable to their masterpiece, Paul's Boutique, or any of their lauded later albums (Check Your Head, Ill Communication, etc). You gotta give them a chance, they're a great group who do so much more than yell over dated Def Jam beats. As well as being funny, articulate rappers, they're genuine musicians who play their own instruments and produce their own songs, too. If you're into soul, funk, electronica, reggae, hardcore punk... they have a little something for everyone!
I swear I don't work for a music magazine or anything, I just really love the Beastie Boys. Excuse me, I'm going to go stroke my shirt and album collection...
