Boehner "Pissed" At Obama For Still Trying To Tax Rich People

2011_07_jboehn.jpg
John Boehner today, looking a little misty-eyed (AP)
This weekend, House Speaker John Boehner walked away from a grand bargain that would lower the deficit by $4 trillion, raise the debt ceiling, and bolster the economy, because his party can't stand to make rich people pay taxes. So Boehner flipped his lid in a closed-door meeting with House Republicans today, telling them how "pissed" he was was the president. According to Politico, Boehner said Obama "talks a good game, but when it comes time to actually putting these issues on the table, making decisions, he can't quite pull the trigger." Aww, sounds like someone could use a cigarette and a good cry. May we suggest Nights In Rodanthe and a pack of Misty Ultra Light 100s?

Among the lies Boehner told his colleagues was that "at no time, ever," during his negotiations with the president, "did I agree to let taxes go up." We'll expect a jillion corrections and retractions from the Beltway press any minute now. The Speaker also said that the debt ceiling crisis was "[Obama's] problem." We've got to hand it to Boehner: despite the murmurings among the political class that Boehner is less in touch with the GOP's Tea Party leanings than Majority Whip Eric Cantor, this whopper about who's obstructing the deficit ceiling legislation seems to give him plenty of Tea-Party cred.

According to a Washington Post and Pew Research poll, "more than eight in 10 tea party supporters (81 percent) said they understand “what would happen if the government does not raise the federal debt limit” — far more than the 55 percent of all respondents who said the same thing." Don't worry America, you're in good hands!

  • Forget the rich they are outsourcing jobs to make a buck for them but are not thinking in the future when the americian people buying there  product or service cant  because they don't have jobs

  • This reminds me of Bush promoting outsourcing of jobs as the most incredulous statement (possibly above his Iraq war chasing windmills) by a president.
In Feb 2006, Bush was IN India for a Nuclear treaty. Before a cheering Indian audience, Bush said "Outsourcing is perfectly OK" (the Indian crowd went wild!).  That was the most unpatriotic incredulous statement I have heard a president utter.  Our own president promoting outsourcing in a foreign country (to the detriment of American jobs)!? Wow!? That still amazes me.

Let's see some FACTS here. . . 51% of America's population don't pay ANY taxes at all.

The top 5% of all income earners pay 59% of all taxes collected- while this same group only earns 35% of all income reported to the IRS as earned and taxable.

Geez- It seems clear to me that raising taxes on ANYONE in the very middle of one of the worst recessions since WWII is not a rational economic solution.

A much better solution is to REDUCE the funding of 'entitlement' programs. . . starting with: Food Stamps; SSI Disability; and totally de-fund ObamaCare, and any 'High-Speed Rail programs- which, as in Seattle, WA. . . very few people will actually use.

Then eliminate (yes- eliminate and finally close-) the U.S. Departments of ENERGY and EDUCATION for starters!  These two agencies do absolutely nothing to further  the interests of the American people!

Then, and only then- perhaps take a look at a 15% reduction of America's military budget- not in the fighting force; rather in the R&D of new weaponry. . . and perhaps some other infrastructure items.

So that is how you can cover ongoing expenses WITHOUT raising taxes on anyone!!
( BTW- Is this America or what?  'Rich' people should be singled-out to pay more tax money so tht the GOV-ERN-MENT can give it to people who's votes they 'PURCHASED' with 'ENTITLEMENTS'. . . what the hell is an 'ENTITLEMENT' anyway! )

  • Politburo

The portion of the population that doesn't pay ANY taxes is 0%.

  • JackBrat

OK- 51% don't pay ANY INCOME TAXES! (Phew! -glad you made me aware of THAT distinction!)

  • Politburo

It's a rather important distinction, not a triviality.

  • JackBrat

. . .though- certainly made 'trivial' by the present 'transformative' (re-distribute the wealth) socialist administration!

  • Ah Mr. Sprat, did you complain also about the previous Socialist (Bush) administration?
Ya know, socialism for bankers, socialism for Wall Street, socialism for Oil companies, socialism for Big corporate farmers, socialism for Hedge Fund managers. Is that your acceptable brand of socialism?

  • JackBrat

Yes! Yes! Yes! Social Capitalism for America's free enterprise 'Job Creators'!
. . .creating opportunities for people who, see life in a very narrow way. . . and who couldn't make it in their daily life without a hand-out, -rathr than a had-up!

  • Ok Mr. Sprat, you also must have been drinking Bush's special KoolAid. With 8 yrs of Bush's tax cuts and socialism for the rich, your "Job Creators" should have us awash in jobs with 4% unempl. Bush inherited a 4% unemployment rate and more than DOUBLED it when he left office to 8.1%. Bush could not even keep it at the same rate - "Job Creators"?? Bush's tax cuts also took a surplus and left a 4 trillion debt. But Clinton raised taxes progressively with the result of 20 million NET jobs and a surplus. So reality  or  Bush's KoolAid ?? (what flavor is Mr. Sprat been drinking?)

  • JackBrat

So Again- Who is Bush?! Bush is O-va!
From the Historical Tables section of the budget at the white house dot gov slash omb website:

    Tax revenues:

    FY 2001: 1.99 trillion
    FY 2011: 2.17 trillion

    Federal spending:

    FY 2001: 1.86 trillion
    FY 2011: 3.82 trillion

Looks like spending is the problem. Tax revenues have gone up by 180 billion dollars in the past 10 years. Federal spending has more than doubled in that same time. Why?
    -----------------------------------------------

Uh because of the two wars and the Bush Tax Cuts!!! Haven't you been paying attention? Just letting the Bush tax cuts expire will put the budget back in the black in the short term but doesn't do anything for long term.

BTW- As an old Russian lady said: "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money". And that's a fact!.

  • JackBrat

    You know- you're right. . . O-Ba-Ma is doing a wonderful job. . .
    Bush? Who's Bush. . . ?! Bush- working behind a 100% Democrat Congress is so 2008!
So get another 'Good_Idea' and realize that this is O-Ba-Ma's baby now!
    (Is is 2012 yet?!)

  • whosonfirst123

There is a significant difference between "ANY" taxes and income taxes. I sincerely doubt that 51% pay neither a regressive sales tax nor any payroll tax.

Actually, I just saw your bits on the Department of Education...fail troll is fail.

  • JackBrat

OK- 51% don't pay ANY INCOME TAXES! (Phew! -glad you made me aware of THAT distinction!)

Also- Not being quite as articulate as you; please tell me what: 'fail troll is fail' means. . .

  • whosonfirst123

Poor sarcasm aside, you should be glad, as it's an important distinction. People that don't make enough to qualify to pay an income tax already pay a large percentage of their income towards other taxes.

"Fail troll is fail" is a common way of dismissing someone who is only trying to annoy people. An example of a troll is someone who says the Dept of Ed provides nothing for the interests of Americans.

  • JackBrat

I guess you right about the U.S. Department of Education- which over the past 30-years. . .has certainly improved the quality of 'education' our America's children get when the graduate High School. . . er- IF they graduate High School at.
It's why a significant percentage of students trying to enter an institution of high learning here in U.S. of A. have to take 'remedial' course in English (the English language- not the English culture!) because they can't write two sentences that make any sense at all; -and a dicipline called 'Math'. (Percentage is a hard one in that area!)!
Oh Boy- the U.S. Department of Education is doing a really good job in the field of 'Education'!

  • whosonfirst123

Would love a source to any of that, especially where a "significant percentage" couldn't "write two sentences that make any sense at all."

Either way, your metrics for deciding whether we should scrap the entire department seem pretty poor.

  • JackBrat

24%- Department of Education - October 2010 Report

  • whosonfirst123

Looks like they didn't write anything about students that couldn't "write two sentences that make any sense at all."

24% of HS grads needing additional prep before higher learning remains a poor reason to get rid of the Dept of Ed.

  • JackBrat

Sure- 24% isn't that bad. . . The politicians feel it's pretty good to have a largely uneducated general populace- Only the 'Rich' can now afford to buy their offspring a decent education. . . at a prvate school like Horace Mann in Riverdale! After attending Horace Mann, both of my friend's kids have just graduated Lehigh University in PA.

Wow! These kids are really educated. . . Yeah- so let's keep the U.S. Department of Education chugging along. . . to inspire more people (mostly 'Rich'-) to buy a private education for their children!
