On August 1st, 1981 MTV launched, with The Buggles "Video Killed The Radio Star"... it was really pretty amazing, looking back:
But do you remember your five original veejays? Before Jesse Camp, and Adam Curry, and even the newsier heads John Norris and Kurt Loder... there was Martha Quinn, Alan Hunter, Mark Goodman, JJ Jackson and Nina Blackwood! While Jackson died at the age of 62, the remaining veejays got together recently for an MTV 30th Anniversary Special. Click through for a little bit of then and now comparisons!

I tried watching the first 24 hours of MTV, and you know what? It's boring! The concept of music video was so new that all they had was badly shot performance videos and a few "arty" tunes from English bands.
What I'd really like to see is "24 hours" from, say, 1983-1985, which was MTV's heyday. That's when video artistry really got cranking, and we got a LOT of music videos that are today considered classics.

I love all of these people and I think they all look terrific. Now let's have some comparison shots to other MTV VJs like Jesse Camp, Simon Rex and Kennedy.
They were all SO annoying, back in the day! Nostalgia is all well-and-good--but, come on, the vapid know-nothings of yesteryear babbling on about anything *but* music aren't any more interesting as people today.
By extension: in the year 2033 in whatever medium replaces the internet, some useless hack mines nostalgia and "writes" a piece on 60-year-old Carson Daly: "Those were the days!"

You're lacking any sort of perspective. Unlike anything Carson Daly has done, MTV in 1981 was groundbreaking stuff. Unless you view Daly as the face and voice of the internet, in which case yeah they're exactly the same.
I was actually around in 1981, and did see more than a little of MTV. It was trash even pre-Viacom, and the on-air "talent" was insufferable. (They were even worse out in the wild, when smeared across coverage of the MTV-broadcast Amnesty Int'l and Live Aid benefit concerts.) I take Carson Daly to be a latter instance of the same vapid tee-vee "personality"....

After that first 10 minutes MTV slid downhill fast...
DA clean up on aisle 9 needed Clemenzza is dropping the K bomb at TVN.
Dead_Air
I'm not interested in revisiting TVN.
Just to clarify. I did get the death penalty. Not for goofing on Louisa Gismonde Calcaterra, but for my back-and-forth with lemmingrus concerning him being an anally inserted hamster (you notice he got banned too, but returned under a new heading.) I don't care enough to want to come back.
You guys quit talking TV and anything germane to the business, and I've lost interest in arguing with people. If Clemenzza wants to call Jews the 'K' word, and the likes of TVN are OK with it, then so be it. Obviously you are smart enough to think something is wrong with it, hence the reason you sought me out (even to mock me.) Again, it's boring to me now.
