The night of July Fourth saw beautiful fireworks in New York and a whole lotta brawling in New Jersey. After the fireworks show off the boardwalk in Seaside Heights a series of fights broke out that lead to 62 arrests! A total of 59 adults and three juveniles were apprehended after the melees...and (maybe) to the relief of MTV not one of those people were members of the cast or crew of Jersey Shore.
The fights began after the fireworks stopped around 10:30 p.m. and reportedly heated up between 11:30 p.m. and midnight. By 1 a.m. things were getting so bad that Police Chief Thomas Boyd decided the only safe course of action was to shut down the boardwalk.
The exact cause of the various fights remain unclear, however "of the 62 people arrested, 39 were charged with disorderly persons offenses, two with criminal trespassing, three with assault, seven with interfering with the official duty of a law enforcement officer, seven with drug possession and four people were arrested on outstanding bench warrants," the police say.
Meanwhile the cast and crew of MTV's hit "reality" show, which just got back to the Shore after a trip to Italy and may have lost a housemate, were nowhere to be seen on the boardwalk. Surprising, considering the crews penchant for brawls and the police!
