You know what's extra cute when you are totally wasted: PUPPIES & KITTENS!!!!!! And here in New York City, you can extend happy hour into a lifetime of happiness with a new furry friend... or at least, you used to be able to until pet stores started cracking down on adopting while intoxicated.

Le Petite Puppy on Christopher Street has now instituted a rule that inebriated customers aren't even allowed near their precious merchandise. Manager Fernanda Moritz told DNA Info that potential customers aren't allowed to hold the pups if they've been putting some back, nevermind take them home. Another shop in the area, Citipups, also forbids drunken doggie purchases; they were burned years ago when they sold a Chihuahua to a tipsy girl, only to have the dog returned the next day with pills in his stomach and "in a near-dead state"!

Next time you are drunk, just pick up a stray on the street and say no to puppy mills!

  • Just because Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan poke the poor puppies in the head and try to stick them in their purses is no reason to keep drunk people from buying puppies.  Of course not.

  • I ADORE how in the article they confused"adopting" with, in this case, the correct term - selling. Want to adopt? Go to local shelter.

  • Dead Himmler

The negative effects of dogs from puppy mills have really been overstated.

  • how about the millions of homeless dogs that get gassed each time some idiot buys a dog from a pet store or breeder instead of adopting a homeless one. Kinda obvious that breeding new animals is an asshole move, but people don't give a shit.

  • My rescued puppy-mill breeding dog would beg to differ on that one - and having participated in rescues of hundreds of breeding dogs from puppy mills, I can tell you that their physical and psychological suffering is very, very real.

How about we stop selling puppies period?  No?

  • mistermarkdavis

    YES!
If it's in a pet store it's from a puppy mill.  If they say it's not froma puppy mill they are either lyign or uninformed.  Even if you don't care abotu animal rights a dog from a puppy mill has a significantly higher chance of developing serious genetic illnesses than one from a reputable breeder.

Bob Barker says to have these drunk morons spayed or neutered.

Are pet stores really open that late or are people just drunk all the time?

  • WetButt

Why would you sell a puppy to a drunk person to begin with, do you really need bad experiences with previous drunken sales to dictate this kind of policy? Incredibly stupid

  • Well if they actually gave a shit, they wouldn't be selling puppies from puppy mills in the first place. They don't care where it came from, why would they care where it ends up?
