After Time editor-at-large and MSNBC talking head Mark Halperin called President Obama a "dick" during Morning Joe, the veteran newsman apologized via Twitter, statement and on MSNBC. Jon Stewart looked at Halperin's apology and wondered why MSNBC couldn't just focus in on Halperin, instead making it seem like Halperin's apology was chaperoned by Willie Geist:
MSNBC suspended Halperin indefinitely and Time magazine issued a statement, "Mark Halperin’s comments on air this morning were inappropriate and in no way reflective of Time’s views. We have issued a warning to him that such behavior is unacceptable." However, Media Decoder noted that Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough "later complained on the air that the show’s executive producer failed to bleep the word," saying, "I would tell you what I think of him, but he doesn’t know what button to push," which suggests tensions between Scarborough and the show's team. Speaking of the show's producers, this morning's MJ had a flub with airing the wrong soundbite which annoyed Mika Brzezinski and Scarborough, who said, "Press the button that says... 'I'm the right button'?":
Obama adviser David Axelrod told the Washington Post, "What [Halperin] said was obviously stupid and tasteless, and he exercised poor judgment,” Axelrod said. “I think he’d be the first to acknowledge that. I strongly disagree with his analysis. But I’ve known him for decades. He’s a decent person and a good journalist. I’m sure that no one regrets this more than he does.” Yeah, Halperin was regretful when he once called Obama a "pussy," too.

Halprin should be fired for being an absolutely terrible political analyst. He is almost literally wrong about every prediction he makes

Uh, this is a private employer action here, not government conduct curtailing speech. Where my libertarians at?
I am entitled to get a tattoo across my forehead that says "F*CK WHAT YOU THINK" (Free Speech, man!) but my professional employer is also free not to tolerate that.
You may agree with Halperin's opinion, dislike obama, and detest the actions of MSNBC/Time, but bandying about "free speech" just exposes your ignorance and furthers the stereotype that the right really has no clue how the constitution works. And don't give me that "PC" garbage - I challenge you to cite a single example in out nation's history of radio/television where a major network tolerated a talking head/pundit/analyst/host calling the sitting president a "Dick." I'll wait.

Mark Halperin made a mistake. He told a truth that Obama is a "dick", however his comment was not politically correct. It should have been Obama is a Weiner following the montra of all that the democratic party represents. Weiner, the standard bearer of the Democratic Party, has raised the ethial and moral standards to at least gutter height.
Guest
Fake outrage. Maybe another Weiner story will get things rolling!

People shouldn't be allowed to exercise their Free Speech and call the President names. No one EVER did that to Dubya.

Which politcal commentator called Bush a dick or something comparable?
Guest
I didn't say political commentator, I said people (that's a noun that doesn't specify one's position or job). Anyway, this is a non-story.

And I specifically said political commentator because that is why it is a story albeit a small one.
Guest
Yeah, a small story about a political commentator who commentated on Obama.

Calling someone a "dick" is the kind of commentary I expect from Gothamist not from someone employed by Time and MSNBC.
Guest
Agreed, but he said what he said. It's up to his employer(s) to discipline him, not the mass media or the public.

If you so badly want to dictate what it's up to the "mass media" to cover, start your own newspaper.
Guest
I don't want to dictate anything. Where did you get that from? Why do I even respond to the commenters on this site who infer/imply things that were never in my posts? It's like talking to children... no, it's worse. Children usually stick to exactly what was said.

the problem is that you consistently fail at the reading comprehension of your own damn comments.

The problem is that people, like yourself and others, consistently try to put words in my mouth.
