A seven-year-old girl in Rosedale, Queens was hit by a school bus after running into the street to escape a neighbor's dog. The girl, Destiny Louigene, is currently in serious but stable condition at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Early reports said that the bus driver didn't have time to stop, quoting the bus driver as saying "I called 911. I took off my shirt to help her." A 10-year-old boy who was playing with Destiny and a group of other children just prior to the accident described the scene, saying Destiny "was running across the street from the dog," a neighbor's Labrador-terrier mix who got loose and started jumping on the children. "She went in the street and got hit by the bus. She fell back on the ground and she was screaming," said the boy.

Neither the driver nor the dog's owner were charged. Destiny is sedated and in and out of consciousness, her mother said, adding, "She's in a lot of pain. It's unbearable."
